So, the way thing generally works on here is pretty simple. If you click on my name you'll get a bunch of tabs. One of those tabs is called Aliases. If you click on that you'll get to see all of my characters as well as my GMing personas. Click on them and you can look at their profiles and see their stats, etc.

If you're bored you can read through the game so far, and it might give you a good idea of what a play by post game is like.
You can also go o he recruitment page if you like (Recruitment) and see if there are any games starting up you want to join.
Or you can wait, and if and when Mark signs up we can talk about starting up a new game of our own.

The best way to get better and figuring out how to play all aspects of the game is to play a few more. I am surprised Mark is not signed on yet, but perhaps he is too busy, or I misread things and he is not as interested in PbP as I might have thought. I'll ask him about it next time I see him.
In any event, there are a few options. If it's just you, I think I could get away with inviting you to play in my Legacy of Fire game (which is the one I've been telling you about).

It's some 1200 posts long, but if you have an hour to spare some time it probably won't take much longer than that to read through. Even if you don't end up playing in it, so far it has been a great example of a well played game, in my opinion. I quite enjoy the characterizations of the players. DM Stormwind is me, as that is the alias I use when running the game, and my wife is Sati, the summoner.
If Mark does want to join up, I think that would be starting to make the group a bit too large, and so it wouldn't be a great idea. However, I'm totally up for making a new game to include you guys. Either a short game intended just to let you explore different roles, or starting a full fledged campaign.
The idea of short games would be to let you make up a character, play him for a bit, then we could start up a new game, with new or rebuilt characters, allowing you to try out a variation on your ideas in different circumstances. Both ideas have their appeal. Once you get comfortable with the forum itself, I think it would be great for you to get involved in multiple games, and thus have a few different characters. I'm presently playing in a dozen games or so, as each individual game isn't a huge time commitment. If you read the posts, and post an action every day or two, you can keep up pretty well.
My characters include all sorts of classes: in my active games I have a Paladin, Barbarian, a Wizard, an Adventurer type, an Aiel warrior (from Wheel of time, kind of like a native american ranger type), an Anti-paladin (in an evil campaign), a Magus (spellcasting swordsman), and a gun-toting religious Inquisitor. Lots of variety, and playing on here has taught me a Lot about the game.
