Bonus stacking between Cold-Weather Outfit and Endurance feat

Rules Questions

Was wondering if the +5 circumstance bonus to Fortitude saving throws against exposure to cold weather stacks with, the Endurance feat's +4 bonus to saves made to avoid nonlethal damage from hot or cold environments?

There are three types of cold weather listed under Cold Dangers:

1) "An unprotected character in cold weather (below 40° F)must make a Fortitude save each hour (DC 15, +1 per previous check) or take 1d6 points of nonlethal damage."

2) "In conditions of severe cold or exposure (below 0° F), an unprotected character must make a Fortitude save once every 10 minutes (DC 15, +1 per previous check), taking 1d6 points of nonlethal damage on each failed save. A character who has the Survival skill may receive a bonus on this saving throw and might be able to apply this bonus to other characters as well. Characters wearing a cold weather outfit only need check once per hour for cold and exposure damage."

3) "Extreme cold (below –20° F) deals 1d6 points of lethal damage per minute (no save). In addition, a character must make a Fortitude save (DC 15, +1 per previous check) or take 1d4 points of nonlethal damage."

Endurance: "You gain a +4 bonus on the following checks and saves: .... Fortitude saves made to avoid nonlethal damage from hot or cold environments"

In all three types, you're making Fortitude saves to avoid nonlethal damage from cold environments, so Endurance will apply to all three.

Cold-Weather Outfit: "This outfit grants a +5 circumstance bonus on Fortitude saving throws against exposure to cold weather."

Exposure is type 2), in this type, the outfit grants a +5 circumstance bonus. Since the bonus from Endurance is untyped, they stack. (Don't forget the cold weather outfit also reduces how often you have to make those saves!)

However, there's some wiggle room. For type 1, it specifically says "An unprotected character..." so does cold weather gear make you protected? I think it should, if it's below 40° F but above 0° F and you're wearing proper clothing, you should be fine. (40° F is fairly warm)

For type 3, the question is if Extreme cold is still considered exposure, despite not using that word in the description. I think it is, that the author was using 'exposure' as a general term in type 2, so I think the outfit's bonus should apply (and stack with Endurance) for the Fort save against the 1d4 damage. (It won't help against the 1d6 no save)

It's an untyped bonus, so it should stack.

You can also grab Furs (12 GP, UE) for an additional +2 bonus against cold, which allows you to move your full overland speed without a survival check (ordinarily you could only move up to half your overland speed with a successful DC 15 survival check to gain the +2 bonus).

Quote:

FURS PRICE 12 GP

WEIGHT 5 lbs.
The most basic of cold-weather gear, animal furs serve to keep
their wearers warm. Wearing enough fur to cover the body
provides a +2 bonus on Fortitude saves to resist cold weather.
This does not stack with any bonuses gained from the Survival
skill. Furs may supplement another outfit.

Thanks for the clarification.

I know the Endure Elements spell protects the target of the spell from -50 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit. What if the character has cold-weather outfit, along with the Endure Elements spell, and the temperature is -51 degrees. Does that mean the character suffers the 1d6 lethal damage per minute of exposure, with no saves for the lethal damage?

Endure Elements doesn't help below -50 degrees, so you would follow the rules for extreme cold and apply your cold-weather outfit like normal.
