So my name is 'W'.
I LOVE it. It's perfect. Such inspiration! My next character is going to be a single letter now. I've been having problems thinking up a name for my Aasimar Inquisitor anyways! *rolls die* And the winner is... K. :)
Now, to fight the urge to put her in sunglasses and a black suit waving around a wand of confusion everywhere she goes. =P

If this character showed up at a table with me I wouldn't be able to play because I would literally be rolling on the floor laughing.

Hello all!
I'm horrible with naming my characters and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions they would be willing to throw my way. My character is a Varisian Male who is a fighter (phalanx fighter archetype).
Thanks!
If he happens to be Shoanti, consider that they are often named for their exploits, and thus their names change periodically, which gets you around the problem of choosing a perfect, super awesome name that you are then stuck with for the campaign.
You can be Beast Tamer, then Goblin Slayer, then Giant Crusher, etc. Kind of fun if it suits the character.
Another idea is to give him a nickname and keep his real name sort of a secret. I had a character who in his youth took up with some gypsies. All of them preferred to keep their real identities secret, so even to each other they were known by nicknames. By chance they were playing cards when we met, so their leader nicknamed me "Ace." It stuck throughout an epic campaign. Nobody, even my closest brothers-in-arms, ever learned my name. Not that there was really anything to hide, but it was kind of fun. Got sorta funny when I was knighted as "Sir Ace."

Ok. To be serious for a bit... I'll share one of my techniques to come up with unique names. Look at the suggested list of names for your race, and tweak a few letters til something sounds right to you. If that still doesn't work after about 5 min of playing with it - try peeking at a different race and doing the same thing there.
For example...Say there's a suggested male name of Obaloth. Try adding a letter in the front, (in this case, I'll use a hard sound to offset the O) and change the middle sound or ending (or both) to something like Toroloth. Well, Toroloth sounds like a mutant Bull-Drow-God-Thing, so I wouldn't be able to take that serious, so let's try a different first letter like a D, and shift the loth sound to something like Drolanod. Or maybe you want only two syllables, so you could try Dralan, shifting yet another letter along the way to make it read better.
This way, it almost always sounds completely unique, and after a few tweaks, it barely resembles the name you based it off of. In this case, only the middle "al" survived from the base name.

A distinctly meh name.
I like it as LEER-uh-lay.
You could always just go with a first name only. Keep it "mysterious".
I rarely ever give my characters last names. No real reason as to why, other than they often never need them. (Then again, I've been playing a lot of heavy melee lately, so it's not like they're overly diplomatic and have a call for them.)
If anyone were to call my Oread Shield Fighter by "Ms." anything, she'd probably think they needed a head-mage.
But last names are much fun to RP with if you're going to use them.
If you like Lirele, go with it! It's your character - play what makes you happy.
Or just marry your character off early and take someone else's last name! Hehe.

Hello all!
My character is a Varisian Male who is a fighter (phalanx fighter archetype).
Thanks!
People will either name their character based on:
1. the profession; or2. their appearance; or
3. their reputation; or
4. their real name.
Varisians reminds me of gypsies when I read into their background and stuff.
Have you thought of looking up for some gypsy names to use?

I like to think of words in English and use an English to Latin online dictionary to translate them and then use what I like best as my PC names.
Example: "Hero" in English is "Vir Fortis" in Latin, so it makes for some pretty cool names.

My brother suggested Richard Longshaft.
As far as my character's background is concerned, I imagine at some point in his youth, he witnessed a military group either practicing drill or engaged in battle and became enthralled with their precision as well as the pomp and ceremony surrounding professional soldiers. From this imprint, he would take a more formalized and structured approach to fighting and eventually find himself as a low-level soldier in the Pathfinder Society. The Society allows him to hone his art while also presenting opportunities to sate the wanderlust of his Varisian heritage.
As far as his personality, I imagine it to be different depending on his situation and surroundings. When home with trusted friends and loved ones, he is energetic and outgoing. Though, when dealing with his training or the Society, he approaches his work with a single-minded determination that boarders on obsession. Strangers are treated with a polite mistrust.
At least, that's what I've got so far. I like the idea of keeping his true name hidden and going by a nickname. Hmmm...thanks for the ideas!
