[Jehova's Arena, Test] Fight the Twentieth, Syken vs. Kirk

Play-by-Post

The space cowboy and half-orc enter a fairly empty arena. It seems that with all the fights going on, most people have gone off to watch one of the dwarves or something. They do, however, appear to have been blessed with the good ol' horn blower, who lets them know to get to their places with a lively *HRRRRRRNK*.

Kirk A10, Syken L10, from the most recent companion rules I posted, a familiar starts in the square to one's left but I suppose we could rule that tiny animals may begin in their master's square. I need initiatives, descriptions, etc.

Elf

Kirk enters the Arena with an overconfident smirk. The kind of smartass smirk you tend to hate. He is an 6 ft 3 in tall elf with silver hair, dressed as a common traveler. You can make out something looking like a crossbow on his back and a blowgun on his belt, the only armor you can see is a haramaki. There is a dusty rose prism flying around his head, it looks like it has already seen it's best days. You can also make out a scroll case and some alchemical items hanging from his belt.
Kirk is accompanied by his miniatur giant space scorpion Uhura (just a greensting scorpion) who readies for the fight at A11.

Arbiter:

I did another minor change to my character sheet (changed linguistics for escape artist). I hope this is ok since I have no idea what I'm up against.

Initiative:
Kirk

1d20 + 13 ⇒ (10) + 13 = 23

Uhura

1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Initiative

Kirk: 23

Uhura: 7

Active Combatant: Syken

Right, don't have an alias for him just yet, but will have one on here ASAP. In the meantime though...

For his first match in the arena, Syken steps in, looking annoyed. It seems to be his default expression.

He is fairly tall, but not particularly muscular. Not a single weapon is visible on his person, though a number of vials and other small items hang on his belt.

He looks over towards the space cowboy, and takes a readied stance, though he still holds no items in his hands.

Got no equipment but a chain shirt.

GM:
Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23

Well now... his initiative is... 23. I think normally the person with the higher modifier goes, or we roll again if that's a tie.
.
So, do we defer to the Arbiter to say who's got a higher initiative, or just tell each other?

Elf

Darkwolf:

13 :)

What does your character look like? I mean what race is he?

P.S. prepare for a lot of edits on my side, sry, bad habit because I dislike double posting in forums ;)

Active Combatant: Syken

Whoops, sorry, half-orc. His appearance and such is up on the profile now.

Kirk:
+13 modifier or 13 on the roll? XD Either way, sheesh. Mine is +4, got 19 on the roll, so uh, you definitely won initiative regardless :P

Elf

Kirk casts a spell and throws some sand in the direction of Syken (you probably know whats coming?)

DC 16 will save please (mind effecting)

P.S. that's my bonus :)

Active Combatant: Syken

Yeesh, talk about a bonus.
.
Anyway, if that happens to be color spray though (on that note, I'll also be making a spellcraft check as a reaction), isn't a close range cone? Well, anyway.

GM:
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
Will Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

Spellcraft to identify = 22
Will Save = 10, so failure, if you are indeed casting it.

Elf

It's sleep :)

You fall asleep for 2 minutes.

I walk up next to your square, Uhura into your sqare.

If I cast color spray now, can the spell affect you (since it states sightless creatures are immune, but closing your eyes does not protect)?

Uhura delayes actions until she is right after Kirk in the initiative order.

If yes: cast color spray first, if you win the will save, a second time, then coup de grace
If no: coup de grace with xbow

damage:

2d8 ⇒ (8, 2) = 10

then DC 20 fort save

Active Combatant: Syken

Not honestly sure how that plays out (whether color spray works first).
.
Sheesh, didn't expect this to be how his first match went. I think I said the same thing with Kailin too, didn't I? XD
.
He makes it through the damage...

GM:
Fort Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17

...but fails the Fort Save on a 17. That's that.

Elf

I think it's kind of bad that fights can end before one combatant can react (There are some options, quadruped eidolons with extra limbs and pounce could charge-splat in the surprise round).

I wish you more luck with Kailin!

Active Combatant: Syken

Well, that actually would bring up an interesting question. Even with pounce, I'd logically think you wouldn't be able to full attack at the end of the charge, since you'd be limited to a standard action in the surprise round. I suppose it could actually work that way RAW though... huh.

And heh, against Rolg, I think Kailin's gonna probably have some troubles. Guess we'll see.

Active Combatant: Syken

To see if there would have been any difference in outcome if the 1 round casting of Sleep had been noticed.

Arbiter:
Bomb Attack: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (19) - 1 = 18 +3 -4 for range
Damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8

Pretty high roll. 18 to hit touch AC, for 8 frost damage. You might also be staggered, but if you don't lose the spell, then it wouldn't matter anyway.

Elf

Ouch.

That one hits.

Concentration:

Arbiter:

1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19

19

That's exactly enough to keep the spell... phew...

In retrospective the fight got really really close, those 8 damage would have left me badly wounded plus Uhura is dead from the splash damage.

Active Combatant: Syken

Doesn't she have evasion? Or did she simply fail the reflex save (would have been DC 16)? Not that it matters much, sleep goes off, Syken goes out like a light, and all that :P

Elf

Oh you're right. But nevertheless that bomb left me in bad shape.

Active Combatant: Syken

Heh, and to think I could have rolled slightly higher on damage still :)

But alright, so we've had it play out fully, and things remained pretty much the same. Sounds good.

Elf

Thanks for the fight. I hope this SOD thing does not get boring too fast :(

Active Combatant: Syken

Hey, it works. Honestly, with how squishy casters are in the early levels, I'm rather impressed you've got Kirk doing so well.

Elf

Thanks a lot!
