Do Fast Learner and Eclectic work together

Rules Questions

The Exchange

I am building a Ranger/Rogue and selected Fast Learner which gives both 1 extra hit point and one extra skill point for the favored class.

I intend to pick the feat Eclectic later and wanted to know if there is any ruling about the trait and feat working together.

I just want to do it correctly.

There is nothing that says otherwise. Whether or not that is a good way of spending two feats is another question and may depend on character concept and how your GM feels about the whole alternative favored class bonuses issue in conjunction with Fast Learner.

Good point.

You are strictly better off taking Toughness rather than Fast Learner (although you could take both).
1.It doesn't restrict you to human (not that human is a bad choice, of course).
2.It gives you +1HP per level, but front loaded to be a static +3HP for the first three levels. This makes you a bit better off in the lower levels.
3.If you choose a skill point as your favoured class bonus then Toughness and Fast Learner are exactly the same, except that you still get health from non-favoured classes. This will help you out before you get Ecletic (or if you never get it).
4.It also gives you the option of getting +2HP from a level in a favoured class, whereas before you were forced to take 1HP and 1 skill point. Since Ranger and Rogue already give quite a few skills the extra HP might be the better choice.

Because Toughness is a better HP Feat, the two reasons you'd want to take Fast Learner is if you wanted both the Skill Point & The Favored Class Option (because the HPs aren't worth the Feat) OR if you have Toughness and still want the extra HP from this & the skill point/FCO.

You can always takes both, one is not always better than the other

Why not take toughness, fast learner and eclectic?

Shadow Lodge

Fast Learner says 'when you gain a level in a favored class' says nothing about only one favoer class, so yes they would work together.
