Eldritch Heritage and racial hit dice

Rules Questions

The title says it all I guess?

no, it doesn't. What exactly is the question you want answered?

I'm guessing the OP is wondering if racial hit dice can count towards the level restrictions for Improved and Greater Eldritch Heritage. Unfortunately I don't have an answer.

I would assume so, hit dice and character levels are generally treated interchangeably by the rules.

Racial Hit die are included in Character Level.

Class level, and Character level, are not the same thing.

So to the question that you are obliquely not asking....

Eldritch hertiage feat wrote:
For purposes of using that power, treat your sorcerer level as equal to your character level – 2, even if you have levels in sorcerer.

Your racial hit die would help you qualify for the feat as BBT said "Racial HD are included in Character level" and the Feat calls out Character level as a prerequisite and calls out Character level-2 as your caster level.

Racial hit dice = all "levels" begotten from race
Class levels = all "levels" earned through your class(es)
Character level = Your racial hit dice and class levels combined

Hopefully that helps.

So what about an eidolon... or a bioconstruct brain having golem?

They have racial hit die.

Interesting

Any creature, that has hit die, not from a class levels, it is racial hit die.

Every, single, creature.

I had never before considered the idea of an eidolon with a familiar. Since eidolons start out with Cha7 it seems like it would be tough to qualify for Eldritch Heritage. Several animal companions have a starting Cha of 10 or higher though. The velociraptor in particular has Cha14.

Of course the familiar of an animal companion would probably have rather low hit points. I also wonder what improved familiars would be available based on the animal companion's alignment. Are ACs always neutral, or does their alignment match their master's?

Actually, if done with the Homunculus, it can on forever. Money provided.

You can create a Homunculus with extra Hit Die, which means you can give it more feats. Give it Eldritch Heritage, and Improved Familiar, for it to gain a Homunculus Familiar.

With enough money, your familiar can have a familiar, that has a familiar, that has a familiar, that has a familiar, and so on.
