Ok, so I was looking around, trying to figure out a potential feat set up for my wizard in Kingmaker. I know some of the metamagic feats are supposed to be good so I looked into those and I looked into Craft Rods as well. This leads me to my question.
Is it better to just have Craft Rods (assuming you have plenty of in game time and some money) instead of the actual metamagic feats?
I understand at least some of the limitations of each.
Metamagic Rods -
+ Does not increase spell time
+ Does not use an extra spell slot
+ Potentially saves you room for other feats if you're so inclined
- Costs a potentially great deal of money
- Rods can be lost / stolen
- Only one rod can be used at a time
- Rods can only be used so many times per day
Metamagic Feats -
+ Feats are permanent
+ Feats don't cost you money
- You may need a lot of feats to get all the metamagic you want
- Costs spell slots
- Increases spell casting time (in most cases)
So, what do you guys think? If you had your choice, assuming a large AP such as Kingmaker being the game, what would it be and why?

I just wanted to post why I has originally thought that you didn't need the metamagic feat when creating metamagic rods.
They could very well be wrong, but this is partly why I was mixed up.
Anyways, I am definitely interested in Extend and Quicken rods. Silent seems like it'd come in use every once in a while. I suppose a Reach rod could be circumstantially useful as well.
Thanks for the comments everyone.

You can get a lot of utility out of them that you wouldn't out of the feats. I play an Admiture Wizard in PFS play.. I use flexible evocation to alter spells like Fireball, Burning Hands and Burning Arc to slam Ice/Cold spells that can entagle the enemy.
I'm assuming that Burning, Thundering, Toppling spells might do the trick in specific situations. I'm considering Thundering but I have enough force spells that throw folks around that Toppling isn't too useful and still debating about burning.. as a learned feat.. not such a good bargain..as a bought rod.. definitely.
The ones I'm curious about are bouncing and echoing as well as a few others.
