New Character

Advice

I need to make a new character, but I have no clue what I want, all I know that I do and don't want is:

DON'T-Want a tank/meat shield (Fighter, Monk, etc.)
DO- Want the character to be level 1
DO-Ability to cast spells
DON'T-Want the character to be any form of evil or neutral alignment
DO-Want to be helpful (SUpport, Healer, etc.)

Healy-type witch or alchemist, maybe? The witch can do double duty by healing/buffing the party and debuffing the enemy.

Bard? Cleric/Druid/Sorcerer/Oracle/Wizard/Inquisitor?
Does not wanting to be a tank/meat shield extend to not wanting to be in melee combat?
Do you want spell-casting to be your primary combat role?
Would you prefer to be a prepared or spontaneous caster?

I'm alright with melee, I just hate being the tough guy with full plate, I usually play clerics, rouges, and druids

Try these for ideas:

What do u think about a SA Ray Mage? 1 level of Sorcerer Crossbolooded (Efreeti Bloodline)(Earth Elemental Bloodline) and 19 levels of Rogue Scout. The bloodline Arcanas of Sorcerer will allow u to alter any of ur elemental damaging spells such as Jolt and Ray of Frost into acid or fire damage allowing u to deal all 4 types of elemental damage. Add rogue on top of that and all ur 0 level 1d3 spells that u can do all day long will be applying SA as long as u move at least 10ft. Feat that u would get would be similar to those of archer feats like Point Blank Shot and Precise Shot and Weapon Focus Ray.

I'd suggest either a bard (buffing with a side of archery or melee) or a witch (focusing on either buffing or debuffing). Am I correct in assuming that you are interested in playing something that isn't a cleric or druid?

You are correct that I don't want to play either of those classes, I'll probably play a bard, but what is the race going to be?

Those are great ideas, but I'm looking towards making a character level 1

Ninja/ Sorc arcane trickster. This guy is about as far away from the front line as he can get, while having great defensive capabilities and being less squishy than a full caster. Plenary of out of combat utility as well.

Archer bard or inquisitor is a great choice as well for the reasons above.

Summoner/ oracle for some good casty goodness, but the summoner will still have a front liner if you want to stay away.

Caster Druid has some good options.

Alchemist is a good one too.

At this point a Bard, an Oracle, or an ALchemist will be my class, I just need to figure out the race, I'm pretty good at races, I've made a race myself, but at this moment I'm stuck on which race to choose.

The character can function at level one but i assume u dont want to stay at level 1 forever do u? If so the character at level 1 will be the usual blaster Sorcerer with crossbow but have ur 1st level spells be some thing that u can use later like Shield and Mage armor. When it hits level 2 and so on add rogue and continue with same strat but switch out of the crossbow to a short bow. Also as ur 3rd O level spell pick up Disrupt Undead so u can have a free 1d6 attack against the undead that will also be able to apply SA. Also the character is not really all that feat intensive all u need realy is Weapon Focus Ray, Point Blank Shot, and Precise shot to make it work. Other than that u can focus on other things for ur feat selection as back up like maybe getting feats for the crossbow or short bow to make it better for when u cant cast.

I personally have a great hatred for Oracles, find Bards decent, and Alchemist is not bad as long as there not a 1 trick pony aka Bomber.
If u go the Alchemist path please i beg u be smart and have a back up plan for when u run out of bombs. As a DM when my players make caster classes or any class that focuses on 1 thing that they have a limited number of i drain them very fast. For bombers i like to send waves of 1-3 mooks at them to drain there bombs and make them completely useless against the BBEG. With that said id highly suggest the Grenadier archetype to pick up a composite longbow for free as well with a few nifty abilities. With the 1st discoveries u get grab Explosive Missile and Explosive Bomb. This will give u both bomb and arrow attacks and a decent Nova of firing ur bomb with ur bow.

I'll go with the Alchemist class, now I need to figure out the race....

I vote for hexcrafter magus. They scale very well, and even at first level your rime frostbite (from magical lineage) is wrecking encounters. Add the whip chain and you now have a character attacking at 15ft and applying and endless amount of debuffs. That or go into the Void Mage. It's lvl 1 ability is amazing. And then you get god wizard spells(control, haste, summons etc.).

So must cast spells, melee is optional?
You should consider the Magus and Inquisitor. They can be built to deal good melee damage, and have some useful spells too.
Magi often focus their spells on damage, so the Inquisitor might have more opportunity for your desire to support.

Inquisitors also get quite a few skills, and one of their Inquisitions lets them use Wisdom (their spellcasting stat) for Diplomacy, Bluff and Intimidate. This lets you be the "party face" while also having some nice spells to choose from.

EDIT: Forgot to press post when I had this tab open. Came back and found I had been ninja'd by an hour's worth of posts!
I guess my suggestion is a bit irrelevant now.

I've officially decided to make the class an Alchemist, now to determine feats, traits, skills, ability scores, etc.

Bomber Alchemist or Vivesectionist? I suppose theres always the jeckel/hyde thing too.. I personally like small guys for alchemist, so they become tiny with reduce person.. With that in mind a race that gets dex/int would be good.. Teifling or Wayang works..

Now that I think about it, there are different things you can do with an alchemist, so now my options are for alchemist:

Beastmorph
Visionary Researcher
Mindchemist
Grenadier

A Beastmorph Vivesectionist works great same with a Rage Chemist Vivesedtionist. Grenadier IMHO is best for bombing but as i stated before have a back up plan. Bombs should be used as nova and not relaid upon since that will make u completely useless once u run out of ur x times a day ability.
