Need help building a monk

Advice

ok, so if my first character dies before we finish the first book in the adventure my GM is running I was thinking of making a Monk. But I want him to use the martial arts styles that i have started to take classes in RL. I have started learning Uechi-ryū & Tai chi, and I was wondering how I could mimic those styles with a monk in pathfinder.

I think you would go more with roleplay than anything for this type of character. Monks are already designed around being exactly what you want. Bring some flavor into choosing what you attack with (IE: kicks, punch, elbow, etc.), and get used to Combat Maneuvers.

Give descriptions of those?

Also, here's a list of Style Feats. The Master of Many Styles archetype can use up to 5 (at level 20) at once.

Having studied some tai chi, I suggest a Flowing Monk or any build with Crane Style. Uechi-ryu seems more general, much like I imagine the default monk combat style.

Temple Sword is one of the best martial arts weapons, and you tai chi teaches sword use, so that would be appropriate if you prefer fighting with a weapon.

I would start to look at the styles and see what mimics what you are learning. From what little I know/could find out these are not particularly 'Hard' styles. I suggest Crane as one and perhaps the master of many styles to get things to 'fit' right.

In addition, there are three stats, Wis, Dex, Str in addition to Con you need to emphasize. Pick two of them as priorities and downplay but not ignore the third.
Also, because you're MAD, +2,+2,-2 or +2,+2 provided they are in the right stats are superior to +2. Human's with Duel Talent racial trait, Dwarves, Archon or Garuda spawn Assimar, Asura, Demodand, Devil, Oni, and Qlippoth spawn tieflings are all good choices.

For example, if I were playing a Garuda Assimar (+2 Dex, +2 Wis) I'd have stats something like (20 pt)-

Str 12 (2)
Dex 18 (10)
Con 14 (5)
Wis 17 (7)
Int 10
Cha 7 (-4)

And I'd probably start w/crane as well. On the other hand, if I were a Dwarf, I'd do something like-

Str 15 (7)
Dex 14 (5)
Con 14 (2)
Wis 18 (10)
Int 10
Cha 7 (-4)

And start with power attack.

Looking at the Style feats I see a few that I have been told represent Uechi-ryu. So my next thought is to do a Fighter(Unarmed fighter archetype)/ Monk(Flowing Monk archetype), then trying to keep the levels about as close to even as I can. Is there a reason why this would not work out how I see it working in my head?

Brawler is probably a better choice for Unarmed fighting than Unarmed Fighter is. Flowing Monk is damn good though.

And if you're going that route you probably want to find one Style that best represents what you need, since you can only have one active at a time except with Master of Many Styles.
