Heirloom Weapon works for one Martial or Simple weapon, and just that one weapon.
You should check the errata'd version here.

I will show this to my group but I foresee us using our own house ruled version of Heirloom instead of this version.
Our version is you get proficiency in with one weapon and only that one weapon and you get a +1 bonus to attack. But it is all up to the group, if they like the new version they might just go with that.

Thank you for the clarification on Heirloom Weapon...ok so if I pickup Sword Scion trait, I receive a dueling sword and it also gives me +1 on all uses...so again I would not need the EWP correct?

The Sword Scion trait does not give any kind of weapon proficiency whatsoever.
It gives a +1 attack (and CMB) bonus with all longswords and Aldori Dueling swords, and let's you start play with an ordinary longsword or ADS.
I'm playing Kingmaker right now, and my PC has the Sword Scion trait and intends to end up as a ranger2/fighter(weapon master)4/duelist? At the moment we've just reached 4th.
I chose half-elf and the Ancestral Weapons alternate race trait to get EWP (Aldori Dueling Sword). I wouldn't have done that if the Sword Scion trait gave me the EWP.

The only trait that I know of that gives you proficiency with anything(not just a specific weapon), is the Shaonti Tattoo trait, which gives you proficiency with Earth Breakers, Klars, and Shoanti bolas.
I suggest the Sword Scion trait because of the flat +1 to attack rolls with Aldori Dueling Swords, and a free weapon.
