Monstrous physique?

Rules Questions

Can this spell be used to turn into a small version of a monstrous creature to gain the small benifits? Or does the monstrous creature have to be small to start with?

I'd allow you to change into a "young" Medusa(just as an example), if that's what you're asking for. But this is my personal take on this. The rules as written do not actually specify it, though the shaman summon abilities suggest that bigger and smaller (than the bestiary) versions of creatures exist.

I think this may very from table to table, and may come with certain drawbacks.

edit: deleted some nonsense

I'm askig for a PFS game. I'd allow it also as a DM

No idea about PFS, you didn't mention that in your question at all, maybe the topic should be moved into the PFS forum?

Well this is the rules form. So the answer should be the same. You stated what your allow not a positive answer

Not quite, there are several things that are legit for regular play but banned for Society play. As I said as written the rules do not exclude that sort of action. But that doesn't mean its legit for Society play.

Being Young or Small or somesuch suggests adding a template to the effect; I imagine this isn't allowed, but you'll have to ask in the PFS forum.

@VRMH that makes sense kinda what I was thinking.
So there isn't a big selections of small monstrous creatures I have found

I don't see why applying a template to the creature is a problem, you are not applying it to your character when you cast the spell. But there are young monstrous humanoids out there that you could potentially shape into.

How developed their special abilities should be at that point is a different question that isn't covered by the rules and falls into GM fiat.
