Sweeping Fend (Ex)
At 13th level, a polearm master can use any spear or pole arm to make a bull rush or trip maneuver, though he takes a –4 penalty to his CMB when making such attempts. Weapons with the trip property do not incur this penalty on trip maneuvers.
The ability to bullrush with the spear is nice, but the trip part make you worst at soemthing you can already do.
If you want to make a trip combat maneuver, do you have to use a weapon with the trip special feature?
No. When making a trip combat maneuver, you don't have to use a weapon with the trip special feature--you can use any weapon. For example, you can trip with a longsword or an unarmed strike, even though those weapons don't have the trip special feature. Note that there is an advantage to using a weapon with the trip special feature (a.k.a. a "trip weapon") when making a trip combat maneuver: if your trip attack fails by 10 or more, you can drop the trip weapon instead of being knocked prone.
On a related note, you don't have to use a weapon with the disarm special feature (a.k.a. a "disarm weapon") when making a disarm combat maneuver--you can use any weapon.

Author's explanation.
It is a shame. jason nelson´s archetypes are interesting and imaginative but tend to not work as intended.

My favorite part is that the Paizo editorial staff didn't catch this. =/
There's lots of examples of this in various Paizo products. I wish they got some people on their staff that kept abreast of the rules.
It's been years and they still haven't clarified how the shaman-druid archetype's wildshape is supposed to work (to bring it inline with how Jason intended for it to work.)

I think that's because of just how many archetypes are his. When you have as many as he does, a few are bound to not work.
