So my friend is new to Pathfinder, and tabletop RPGs as a whole. He's played a few pregens and wants to dive in with something more custom made. So he asked if I could make him a character based off Eddie Riggs (from Brutal Legend). So 3 things came to mind.
1) The Seperator (A Greataxe, easy enough)
2) He's a Roadie (So a Bard, easy enough)
3) Call Lightning (Well...Damn)
So focusing on a Bard with a Greataxe, and a Wand of Call Lightning, I feel like I can do better than my current build. So have a look, and give your suggestions, or even alternate builds. Here are some of the rules.
Level 8, base gp (33,000).
20 Point Buy
Melee-capable
That's about it. He wants to get in there and chop enemies up, while playing his guitar and summoning awesome spells.
Edit: Forgot to link the character, d'oh! It seems to put a space between the g and s in "riggs", so just delete that space, and you're good to go.

Soundstriker bard. Fluff the slashing damage to look like elements if you really want to match the game's look, but I think shredding flesh with your guitar riffs is close enough.
Catch off guard, improvised weapon mastery, adamantine guitar. Power attack, lingering performance, fire music.
Str15+2+1, Dex14, Con14, Int7, Wis10, Cha15+1

If I may suggest... if he has already played a few pregens, it's time for him to build his own character. This is an extremely important part of learning to play the game, in my opinion, because character generation helps make you really aware of what your character can do more than just reading it off the character sheet--something about the process of going through abilities and picking them helps get those abilities to sink in. Sit with him and guide him, but he should be the one looking through the books, reading through the abilities, and deciding for himself what best reflects his concept. The most important part is letting him make mistakes--or do things that you may think as a vet are "mistakes" but actually turn out to work just fine. A lot of times experienced players get into mindsets about stuff we think does and doesn't work and while that's important stuff to bear in mind, sometimes a fresh perspective reveals something we never quite realized would be quite effective.
Now, if he just really doesn't want to build his own character, that's it's own thing and he shouldn't necessarily be forced to, but I really very strongly feel that going through the process of character creation is really essential to learning RPGs well, and I think one of the hugest mistakes RPGers make is trying to teach the game to newbs using pregens and characters they build themselves (and while I am not saying this is your situation, but sometimes the yearning to build cool new ideas for one's own fun gets conflicted with the desire to teach someone else how to play). It's different if you're running a demo or a quick pickup game and don't have time to go through char gen, but this is not the case.
That said, as for the build itself, I don't know if it would otherwise suit the concept, but magician archetype allows learning arcane spells. You couldn't learn call lightning but certainly eventually lightning bolt and similar spells.
