Metacharge

Rules Questions

So I don't get the point in this ability when so you add Meta magic feats to item creations?

Adding metamagic to magical items is pretty rare, and the bonus you receive from Metacharge isn't really significant anyway. But you get that, and a free feat.

The Exchange

The real bonus is replacing Hand of the Apprentice with an Item Creation or Metamagic feat. The +2 normally only comes into play if you take Craft Rod later or are creating scrolls with metamagic feats on the spell.

Crafting with Metamagic is Rare... But can't you add them to Wands, Staves, & Such.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help.

Yes. I wouldn't recommend that you do it, though. What situation can you think of where the increased cost of the item is still worth the metamagic effect? An increase in the level of the spell is +1 multiplier to the cost of the item, you know.

And, for example, Wands and Potions have limits on the level of spell they can store.

The main problem of Metamagic Feats is that they aren't worth it. You pay a feat slot to get the feat, and then pay again in order to use it. Rods are usually decent for their price if you really use it a lot, but in 99% of all other situations, Metamagic Feats are noob traps. It's one of the most glaring flaws Pathfinder has inherited from 3.5, made all the worse because the Rods exist now which make the feats even less attractive.

I'm not even sure that you need to have the feat in order to craft a Rod (aside from the Item Creation feat itself, that is). This is, in my opinion, a huge problem and should have been one of the first issues Paizo addressed.

So we're all left with Unearthed Arcana to once again solve the problems that keep the game from working as intended and advertised.

In my opinion this is very wrong. The single fact that Spell Perfection has been introduced, makes 3 metamagic feats a must-have for any full caster, if there is a reasonable chance that the campaign will reach lvl 15.

Secondly caster doesn't depend much on their feats for other choices. While there is a lot of nice feats out there, they don't need them to function.
Thirdly, I've seen very good use of metamagic feats for spontaneous casters. Not having too many spells to choose from, makes the added versatility of metamagic feats quite useful.

I can see Metamagic applied to some wants as being an excellent investment.

& they are excellent feats. IF YOU KNOW HOW TO USE THEM!
