Can Curse Items simply be sundered?

Rules Questions

The bard in my group became the proud owner of a Stone of Weight yesterday.

Now I was wondering, can cursed items simply be sundered by the groups fighter? In the magic item section it says that magic items lose their magic when destroyed and cursed items are magic after all.
They do have a few +1 weapons by now, but no adamantine yet.

I figure there's some clause preventing this, as it seems like far too cheap a way to get rid of ANY cursed item - especially considering Remove Curse may be cheap and easy, but will not permanently remove the curse.

Speaking of: Is there a way to permanently un-curse and/or destroy a cursed item except maybe a Wish spell? Even Break Enchantment seems to only be a temporary solution.

I believe it says it this items description that if it thrown away or smashed it appears back in the holders possession, somewhere on his person.

Remove Curse wouldn't uncurse the item but it would allow the current holder to dispose of it. Say in a place where it wouldnt be able to be picked up again.

Spell Sunder ?

Mordenkainen's Disjunction? (A pretty high-level option, but I think it works.)
