Help me make a ninja-rival-party!

Advice

1 person marked this as a favorite.

So the party is after this epic katana, thats sth like a Mantis Blade. And at the end of the dungeon (that consist mostly of traps and some ghosts/shadows) just before they find the epic sword along with some other +3 to +5 weapons, they should encounter a party of 4 12th lvl ninjas.

They should be sth like:
1 pure ninja
1 ninja/sorc/AT or sth similar thats capeable of arcane casting
1 ninja/fighter or ninja/monk (martial at least)
1 ninja/oracle or bard or just 1 guy with maxed UMD to use CLW-Wands

Are you up to the challenge to help me build them?

thx in advance :)

Grand Lodge

Well, not every Ninja needs levels in the Ninja class.

No need to define every NPC by the name of their class.

yea you can have people have high stealth and use light to no armor. You can have a fighter that is a dulest. you can use a them with out everyone being a ninja.

Grand Lodge

Infiltrator/Trapper Ranger is a good one.

Yeah, I know I could just use different classes, but I liked the idea that the whole party has swift-invisibility and See Invisibility potions (for team tactics) to annoy the PCs a little. The other reason for ninja in every NPC was to weaken the NPCs a bit as they will get PC-loot and I dont want the encounter to be a TPK.

give the npcs less gear that lowers there CR, or you can make them lower lv and have one be higher lv to be the "Boss"

If the party is going to be 12th lv you can have a boss ninja that is lv 13, then you make 3 8th lv ninjas to make it look like its a ninja hideout. then you make a 10th lv samurai ronin, and make a 10th lv oracle. This size of group of npcs should be a good battle and not kill them, it would be a hard fight.

Why am I tempted to just say make a regular party of fighter wizard cleric rogue where not a single one of them are ninjas, but give them ninja clothes...

The leader of the group can be like 'Vector' from Despicable Me...

He can be all 'you'll never defeat us! Because WE'RE ALL NINJAS!'

and the party can be all 'if you're all ninjas then why dont you ever shut up?'

i love this sort of challenge. what kind of point buy should they be on, and are you sure you want to use PC WBL? also, would you consider using a party that had NPCs without ninja levels if they still truly fit the theme and could use the same tactics? and do they get any traits?

no traits, heroic stat array and the wealth should be avarage lvl 12 pc wealth because I need to bolster the pcs equipment a bit, as they are significantly under avarage wealth.

Sczarni

A Ninja/Red Mantis Assassin would fit nicely into your group. Has arcane ability could substitute for the ninja/sorcerer/at you want

Paired Dirge Bards with Teamwork feats ala the Harpists in Kung Fu Hustle.

well, i came with a party in mind to write-up and post and then saw/remembered that you wanted the party somewhat sub-optimal in order to avoid TPK... back to the drawing board, i guess.

for anyone who was curious, my plan was:
1. straight ninja- twf, keen wakizashi x2, outflank and precise strike teamwork feats
2. kensai- double chained kama, relies on invisibility spells, uses enlarge person for huge threat range/tons of AoO, skilled tripper
3. ninja 2/two-handed fighter 10- power attack, keen nodachi, outflank and precise strike teamwork feats, imp. eldritch heritage [shadow]
4. oracle[dark tapestry]- good with stealth but uses invis spells (from kensai) whenever possible, reach spell feat for ranged heal, imp. eldritch heritage[arcane] for bonded item and learn telepathic bond... use true seeing and telepathic bond to direct combat

it would be a fun party to play with but probably too likely to TPK, i'm guessing. a couple crits between the ninja and fighter (with their 15-20 crit range), which then allow their partner an AoO, and people may be dropping left and right. if i have time later i may try to post something a little less deadly (and more fully written up)... maybe a party of all straight class ninjas using skills/feats/tricks to try to fill all 4 roles?

Sovereign Court

1 pure ninja - uses lots of ki tricks; maybe poison/smoke bombs
1 barbarian ninja (scout archetype) - not very stealthy, but good damage dealer and recipient of buffs. It's also pretty funny to have a raging two-hand ninja. (What's scarier than a barbarian? An invisible barbarian!)
1 arcane trickster (ninja/shadow bloodline sorcerer)
1 ninja oracle - your choice of mystery

Might want to splash some levels of Assassin or Shadowdancer in there somewhere, too.

Negate attacks through Crane Wing/rd.
Lesser Sunblade is 3.5 but compatible.

Hmmm... This is a nice challenge... I'll try to make something in HL...

this would be one of those great opportunities to load up on team work feats for the different ninjas.

Make sure one uses a pair of sai, one paired nunchucks, one paired wakizashi, and the other a quarterstaff.

No, Im serious.

Quarterstaff Ninja = Staff Magus.
Paried Waki = ninja/Two weapon warrior
Paired nunchucks = monk/ninja
Paired Sai = Ninja/ Inquisitor.

If you can get away with it, maybe a Ronin with some kind of dragon horse mount as another flanking buddy.

Give the Staff Magus Dimensional Savant and have him be everywhere with dimension door.

The flanking and team work feats would be crazy and dizzying.
