Easy way to change races without too much cheese midlevel?

Rules Questions

So on my wiz I made a him a half-elf but after both RP reasons and advantages I'd like to change to a pure elf. I could do some risky cheese like get a druid to reincarnate me or spend ALOT of money to buy a wish but would like a better option. any ideas?

Why not just ask your GM to retcon you to having always been an elf?

Liberty's Edge

This the kind of thing you should run by your DM.

Polymorph any object (at least until you get hit by a dispel). Honestly though I'd just talk to the GM.

I did but hes running a massive campaign with alot to keep track of. I suggested an RP way to do it and he gave me a "hmm I dont know". If i found a way to do it in game with mechanics he wouldn't mind.

This came up before I believe.

Isn't there a spell that changes Half-Orcs into Orcs? You could find someone who's researched a similar spell for Half-Elves.

Huh. There is indeed. That can probably serve as a fine baseline for what you want to do.

Does it have to be PFRPG? In 3.5 there was a small prestige class (I don't think it was even 5 levels) that basically made you into an elf - Rauthar or something I believe.

Wish?

Dark Archive

Or research the spell yourself since you're a wizard.

I agree though it's probably best just to ask your GM if you can just change. If it matters for RP reasons, you can still be a "half elf" in that you are not full blooded elf, but are full blooded enough to get the elf traits instead of half elf traits.

If you really want to be an elf who was once a half-elf as part of his story, you're going to run into several mechanical/rules problems.

Maybe it was discovered that your human ancestry was just 'family lore'---like a lot of people in the US with Indian tribes. You only thought before that you were half elven---maybe it was really 1/4, or 1/8, or even 1/32....

Reincarnate would be expensive (at least on average) if you were to do it randomly, but if you just predestined the roll (DM's action) to elf then it wouldn't be particularly expensive.
then have the dead body brought to a healer who only has reincarnate (likely instead of other resurrections).

There's also another option of using an item (DM's discretion obviously) I saw suggested for Pathfinder, which is a shroud you put over the target of a reincarnation spell in order to choose which race it reincarnates as (I believe it's embroidered with a picture of the race on the shroud). It seems pretty OP in my opinion, but to use it for being an elf it seems reasonable.

I think the most logical route is crafting a HE to elf version of the spell. The mechanic exists so RAW allows for it to some degree. Thanks guys

Wait, if the GM is busy, I'd have guessed that the quick "okay, fine, you're an elf, and have always been so" approach would be better (time-wise) than "let's find a way to do this in-game." I mean, the latter approach takes more time, and really, a change like that isn't really that big a deal unless it happens more than once or twice. Or unless it's integral to the story somehow, but that seems unlikely. This could be one of those unlikely times, I suppose, but I'll chalk this one up to "that's their GMing style". Which is perfectly fine, of course.

I like EWHM's approach. Fast, easy, done. Mind over matter. Stranger things have happened. The mind over matter thing could be pretty bad precedent, though, depending on the players.

Grand Lodge

Salve of the Second Chance and suicide.

Otherwise, some DM finagling/houserules is needed.
