Companions get Armor?

Advice

Scarab Sages

In the core book it says animal companions can get armor proficiency does this mean they can wear armor? If so what else can they equip?

Scarab Sages

Look up Barding for appropriate pricing and what not for an animal companion. Animal Companions can where most anything they have the appropriate slot/limb for, including armor, neck slot items like amulets, etc.

Yes they can wear armor.

Here is the ruling in Pathfinder Society about what animals can wear.

Here is some developer commentary on your question.

Sure they can wear armor, although it'll cost a bit more to have made and you are highly unlikely to find it premade. Masterwork studded leather doesn't even have an armor check penalty, so it is unnecessary to have the feat to wear it without penalty.

As for what else they can equip, any answer you get on this forum means considerably less than what your GM is willing to allow in his or her game.

I have yet to play in a game where the GM has any problem with animal companions wearing armor. You just have to have the right proficiencies. My druid's large tiger wears +1 studded leather barding.

animal companions need no feat to wear a mithril chain shirt. usually their normal natural ac + a chain shirt is all they need. feats can be spent on other things
