Well the item is at the polishing stage, so I wanted to get a head start with the archetype and maybe the monster. Just in case.

goldo, my advice would be to do lots of research on previous years and official monsters and archetypes. You can certainly start brainstorming some ideas -- and, heck, even do some practice ones to run by friends, but don't get too caught up in making any decisions. You don't know what the twist will be or word count, so just doing generic practice and thinking about it is your best bet.
Depending on your Golarion knowledge, it also makes sense to brush up on that, as later rounds often indicate make a GOLARION monster or encounter, etc. etc.
That said, I'm betting it'll be CR 27 monsters. ; )

FWIW, in 2010 there were separate "monster pitch" and "monster stat block" rounds. The stat block round was limited to CR6.

And how! Remember, even if we're not expected to make a mythic statblock, you might be expected to propose something that is potentially mythic, or intended to be used with those rules.
As for CR, my vote is somewhere between 1 and 10 - which is a large gap, sure, but typically Paizo aims for producing more lower-level content, because more people play there. Which means if you're thinking of putting forward a king of demons or something, you're going to want to scale things back a little. ;)
I'd guess it won't be CR 7, since that was last year's challenge.

CR 1 or 2 would be a challenge to come up with something challenging yet not TPK making.
I wonder if they'll ask for super low CR like CR 1/2...I think that would be VERY challenging to make interesting.

From a flavor perspective, that could be a really interesting challenge. But from a stats perspective, it would probably be a bad choice.
The extremely low level means that very little could be added. More than one special ability (or even just one) would make it overpowered for it's CR. It would be all flavor, no mechanics. An ability block for a "creature type" with all the math basically predetermined is not likely to be the "Super Star" challenge.
