Holding the Charge of a Touch Spell and Touch

I cast a touch spell and miss, so now I'm holding the charge of that spell.

If you touch anything or anyone while holding a charge, even unintentionally, the spell discharges. If you cast another spell, the touch spell dissipates. You can touch one friend as a standard action or up to six friends as a full-round action.

Will my held spell go off if someone touches me?

Examples:
- Enemy attack with weapon
- Enemy unarmed attack
- Enemy touch spell
- Paladin ally Lay on Hands

I'm holding the charge of a touch spell and knocked unconscious. I fall to the ground. Did I just touch the ground? What if my spell specifically targets "Creature Touched"?

If you're in the boat that says willing creatures touching you sets off the held spell for an automatic hit. Do I still get to roll an attack to determine critical hits? What about conditional modifiers, such as -4 to melee attacks for being prone?

No, there are spells that replicate this with fairly significant resource investment.

Not covered in the rules. GM fiat, table variation, etc.

Just like gloves on your hands, rings on your fingers, touching a water droplet if it's raining, or particles in the air, dead skin cells that haven't flaked off, etc.

Many times it's treated as happening if you actively touch something. Making a touch attack as a standard action, making a normal attack with a natural weapon or unarmed strike, but also stuff like shaking hands, or trying to move an injured ally, picking up an object, etc. Effectively putting a limit on what you can do while holding the charge without being ridiculous about it.


I thought it might be something like "you have to actively touch" something.

Unsheathing a weapon. *Bzzt* Ow!

Failed Acrobatics check from jumping, now grabbing the ledge to save self from fall. *Bzzt* Hey!

Opening a door. *Bzzt* Whoa!

Looting treasure. *Bzzt* Sorry.

Drinking a potion. *Bzzt* Ew.
