So G4 is ending, basically, this month.

Television

Sorry if this comes a little late, I just heard about it today.

You know, I haven't flipped to that channel in a while, mostly because DirecTV doesn't have it any more, but there was a time I watched X-Play religiously and Attack of the Show pretty often. They're ending some time this month and I can't help but feel kinda sad.

I know I haven't watched any of it in about 3 years, and I probably wouldn't like it anyway considering Adam Sessler, Kevin Pereira, and Olivia Munn are gone, but those shows were a pretty big part of my middle school/early high school years and I'm sorry to see them go. It was bad enough that they started running Cops, Cheaters, and Ninja Warrior 3/4 of the day but when those shows came on it was a good time to settle in for entertainment.

And to add insult to injury, not only are they axing what are basically the only reason for the channel's existence, they're completely remaking the channel as "upscale entertainment for men" or some bull honky.

Does anyone else care? Am I just blinded by nostalgia goggles or something?

*Sigh* Ah well. I'm making sure to try and find the farewell episodes online when they air, if only to see the whole cast together.

I only ever watched for the two shows you mentioned since it was the only good thing on at 3am. Im actually surprised its still on the air.

Well, given what they did to TechTV, I really have little sympathy for them.

Wha? Damn, this sucks. I haven't had cable in almost a year, am in the process of getting it finally turned back on this month and G4 is disappearing? Crud.

I really enjoyed Ninja Warrior(it's like Wipeout for grown-ups). I never understood why they showed COPS or Cheaters for 3+ hours at a time...

Silver Crusade

Such is network decay. :(

Oh yeah, I really did like Ninja Warrior, although the 'reality boot camp' schtick they did was really quite awful.

I loved how American Ninja Warrior really worked hard to be 'positive', even in the face of overwhelmingly difficult obstacle course stunts. You know, Grandpa Ninja or whoever would wipe out, then he'd get up and wave at the crowd, and they'd cheer, and it was positive, you know?

Meanwhile on some cook-off show, or some tattoo show, they'd have the shame session where one guy would get fired like three times a show, and there'd be some hackneyed catchphrase, and they'd show whoever crying or whatever, and it'd be yuck...

Anyway, G4. Did anyone ever watch that serial 'MMO-hopper' show, where they switched between like 6 different MMOs trying to tell a serial adventure. Man was that weird, and it didn't work half the time...but I still thought it was watchable.

...I just dumped cable for Roku/Netflix/Crunchyroll. woopsie.

Meh. The channel was back and forth with a lot of its stuff for a while now. X play was essentially the american video game channel, which meant it devolved into all shooters all the time with occasional mmo footage. Attack of the show was little. I will miss the original ninja warrior as well as unbeatable banzuke.

Dark Archive

AotS, XPlay, and Ninja Warrior. I shall miss them, even though I haven't watched them regularly in years... :(

I really enjoyed Judgement Day waaaay back, with Tommy Tallarico and Victor Lucas. I also liked Cheat! back when Cory Rouse was the host.

The channel in general began to shift from what I thought were quality shows to a bigger focus on sensational foolishness ala MTV. I find better quality review shows that are also genuinely more entertaining on YouTube now, so I'm not too sad to see it go.

I really do mark Judgement Day as G4's zenith though. Those were the golden days.

Wow. That sucks. I rarely watched the shows, but when I did I enjoyed them. ~sighs~ There goes G4.

Thinking back, my old roommate and I would watch X-Play religiously back in '04. Wowsers, that didn't seem like that long ago until I did the math. Getting old sucks.

I used to watch X-Play and Ninja Warrior all the time (though I didn't care for the American version once it became it's own things instead of people competing for a chance to enter the existing competition.) I haven't watched either in years, though. Never really got into AotS. It was way too over the top for me.

Well if you're all disappointed about Ninja Warrior NBC is picking that up last I heard.

Indeed. Read the news about a month ago - and immediately canceled the channel.

Put me on that bandwagon. TechTV introduced me to google.

I still miss TechTV.

What's a G4?

(this common question is a little bit of why it died)

Liberty's Edge

And then this happened.

Yeah, that's what I was talking about when I said the "insult to injury" part.

Anybody know when the final episodes of these shows are coming on so I can look 'em up online? I can't seem to find when.

Haven't watched G4 in years and more or less forgot about it until I found out about this recently from here.
