Ioun stone - orange

Rules Questions

gives you +1 caster level. If I am a level 5 druid and I have one lvl 3 spells...would that give me access to summon natures ally 4 animals? I know that if you were doing a damage spell that has d6 per lvl you get an extra d6 due to the stone. Just wondering if this would also be the case in a sell like summon natures ally. Thanks for any info.

It only increases your caster level for all effects based upon caster level. It doesn't actually increase your level, nor does it grant you additional spells. What you're describing would be to give you a new level of spells, which is different. Your ioun stone in this case would extend the duration of that spell.

Honestly, though... if you're playing a campaign where you've got an orange ioun stone at 5th level, you're playing an absurdly high powered campaign. Ask your DM. They might not care.

Shadow Lodge

Brogue the Rogue is correct, the type of monster you can summon with Summon Nature's Ally is dependent on the level of spell cast, not your caster level. You are still casting Summon Nature's Ally III, so you still use the 3rd level spell list.

The +1 caster level will effect things that are tied to your caster level. In the case of Summon Nature's Ally, that means that instead of having summons that last for 5 rounds (1 round per level), you'd get ones that last for 6 rounds.

Otherwise, it shouldn't change the spell in any way, or the highest level of spells you can cast, just the variables (like you said, adding a d6 to things that do 1d6 per caster level).

Also, ninjas.

Ninjas!
