Pistolero-Gunslinger / Infiltrator / Sin Eater-Inquisitor Build...HELP

Advice

Ok, so I've messing around, and i think I may have come up with something pretty cool. My group is using the interpretation of the pistolero that it DOES NOT over ride gun training and that I DO get Dex*2 to damage at level 5. So, here we are:
1-6: Pistolero
7-20 Infiltrator/Sin Eater

Feats:
Gunsmithing
Point Blank Shot
Rapid Reload (pistol)
Rapid Shot
Precise Shot
Deadly Aim
Lookout

Now...as for race, I was thinking either a Strix for the flying and the +2 to Dex, or a Garuda-Blooded Aasimar for the +2Dex, +2 Wis. The Aasimar would be great for the bonuses and the elemental resistances but the flying is BEAUTIFUL for full attacks with a double barreled pistol.

Basically, I'd be using the aforementioned double barreled pistol, with rapid reload its a move action to reload one barrel, and with alchemical cartridges its a free action.

I need some advice for spells and the like. Any and all advice is BEYOND welcome! Thank you in advance!

Shameless bumpola!
No one has any input for this guy?

Sovereign Court

Have you looked at the Shieldmarshal out of the Paths of Prestige book? When I hear people want to be gunslinging inquisitors, I think that class.

I do like the Gunslinger/Inquisitor thing, however you only need to go to 5 to qualify for pistol training. With that said I personally find Bane and the other Inquisitor class skills a bit more important than Dex to damage for the earlier game therefore you could consider Gunslinger 1 for HP, BAB, and a gun and then from 2-6 Inquisitor to get to bane and finally 7-10 for your pistol training. Then from there MORE INQUISITOR!!!!!!! Just my 2 cents though =D

@RtrnofdMax: I do love that prestige, but I don't really like the idea of spreading out the classes that thin. I would like to keep it simply Inquisitor and Gunslinger
@KrythePhreak: That's EXACTLY what I was thinking earlier today. I decided that I'd have it and even 5/5 split. The thing is, if I play this character, I'd be starting it at level 10, so I'd have 5/5 from the start. Your "2 cents" is more like a dollar, my friend :P

Well a level 10 start can change all of that entirely haha but for any other curious souls out there starting at 1 with this build then go with the stuff said earlier haha.

Haha for a late start, what would you recommend?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Well, Gunslinger (Pistolero) 5/Inquisitor X is a hard to mess up... All you really need is Point-Blank Shot, Precise Shot, Rapid Shot and Rapid Reload (Pistol). After that you can pick pretty much whatever you want, but Deadly Aim, Clustered Shots and Snap Shot are a great boon, of course.

A 6th level of Gunslinger grabs a bonus feat, but it also means you won't get your 4th bonus to Judgements, so there is that. Still a good trade, though.

The Preacher archetype for Inquisitor is probably better, as Determination is much more useful than Teamwork feats for ranged characters.

Luck, Travel and Liberation domains are some of my favorites, but the Conversion inquisition is very good if you want a more socially skilled character.

Grab the Magical Knack trait to compensate a little for the lost spell casting levels. Reactionary is also fun just so your already amazing Initiative becomes so absurd your GM might as well let you act twice in the 1st round... Heh. You have pretty good saves and great skills anyway, so you don't really need any other trait.

Stryx and Aasimar are great races, if your GM allows them, but Humans and Half-Orcs are also pretty good.

Overall, you already have a pretty solid build, I just suggest looking into the Preacher archetype instead of Infiltrator/Sin Eater (I like their names better than their features) and that you eventually get Clustered Shots and the [Improved] Snap Shot. Those feats are simply amazing.

@Lemmy: I never thought of Clustered Shot...Snap Shot was in my mind for the next feat I would grab, and of course the improved version would be up next to bat if I got that. Magical Knack is a GREAT idea, and I will be taking that. As for the Infiltrator and Sin Eater...I fell in love with the Infiltrator for some reason...no idea. Sin Eater works with the concept I'm going for. I decided on Aasimar, and my GM allowed it, and the basic concept of my character is that he is very much in touch with his celestial ancestors, and as such "cleanses the bodies of his enemies of their sins," so I'm going to keep that as well. But Preacher works with both other archetypes, so I could, in theory, use all three. I'll keep that possibility in mind.

Well, I won't argue with character concept... And I gotta admit Infiltrator and Sin Eater probably have the coolest names of all archetypes... heh

Gunslinger 5/Inquisitor X is a great combination anyway.

I also love Gunslinger (Mysterious Stranger/Pistolero) 5/ Paladin 3, then any combination of those X... Or the Holy Sheriff, as I like to call it, lol. It might also fit your character concept of an badass Aasimar in touch with his celestial heritage.

You know, if there was an Int based archetype, I'm pretty sure Gunslingers could be effectivelly multi-classed with any other class in the game. I still LOL when I remember the Gundolon build...

I...I do like the Mysterious Stranger/Pistolero-Paladin :o...If I wasn't so hellbent on Inquisitor I'd be taking Paladin instead!

I was thinking that about the gunslinger the other day. There's vanilla Gunslinger for wisdom class dips, there's Mysterious Stranger fro charisma class dips...if there was an intelligence based archetype literally any class could have their fair share of firearmed badassery without having to spread their stats too thin

I know how you feel. Paladins and Inquisitors are very fun classes to play (well, unless your GM is a jerk who can't wait to take their powers away...) and, IMHO, probably the most well-balanced ones too.

They are always effective, but never game-breaking or useless, and they can do lots of cool stuff in and out of combat. Their defensive options (AC, saves, etc) are very solid, so you don't need to pour lots of money just to make sure you won't kill your friends or become a lawn ornament.

Really, we should have more classes like that...

My GM hates the alignment clause placed on some classes, and he is not one to take powers away from a PC because of a simple action. But yes, I agree that Paladins and Inquisitors are seemingly two of the most fun and interesting classes to play. I'm not quite sure, but I have a thing for gish classes such as the Magus, Paladin, and Inquisitor, and something about the Divine gishes intrigues me a lot. It should be a lot of fun playing this guy.

Grand Lodge

Inquisitors have way more freedom than Paladins and Clerics.

If you go too far, you become a Heretic Inquisitor, but you don't lose spells, or abilities.

You need to go really far for that.

Your GM sounds like a nice guy. This means you can have lots of fun with Paladins and Inquisitors.

I think the nice thing about gishes is that their spells gives them great versatility and usefulness without breaking the game. And since their spell casting is not all-powerful, they can still get some extra cool stuff and be capable of doing action stunts.

Paladins, Inquisitors, Magi, Bards... These are all great classes. I also love Rangers, but nowadays I think Inquisitors are basically Ranger+.

Besides, I'm addicted to skill points, so that's another reason to enjoy Inquisitors, Magi and Bards, haha! I simply cannot stand having less than at least 4 skill points per level... Luckly, my GMs gives 2 extra skill points to Paladins :D.

Your GM a fan of Paladins, eh? Haha! Yeah Magi are the BOMB! They are possibly my favorite class, mostly because of the abuse with Cabalist (any electric draconic bloodline) into Dragon disciple. Take Cabalist Magus (who is a spontaneous caster, learning spells as a bard would instead of with spell books and such) to level 7, get all draconic bloodline powers up until level 7, then go into Dragon Disciple at level 8. Your Sorcerer level stacks with DD levels for bloodline powers, but since your Magus level counts as Sorcerer levels...profit XD

Actually he gives that bonus to any class with only 2 skill points per level (same as I do when I GM), it just happens that I'm playing a Paladin.

I really like the Cabalist archetype from Super Genius Games. I think the only real reason I didn't create one is that I can't make it in HeroLab. Man, that program is addictive. I simply can't build characters without it anymore.

I can have whole builds ins 5~10min. And make them viable, solid and with the certainty that I'm not breaking rules or messing up the math. It's also a great help to pick spells and feats!

I have played around with a Gunslinger Paladin and he was really nice overall. I did Divine Hunter 2/Mysterious Stranger with Pistolero X. I never saw a reason to go to 3 with the Paladin.

It's not truly necessary. I just like the immunity to fear and diseases. 4th level is also pretty good because that's when Paladins get Spells and one additional use of Smite Evil.

Really, Gunslinger 5 "Mysterious Pistolero"/Paladin 2 is all that is necessary, after that you can divide your levels however youw ant and the character will be pretty good anyway.

Besides, if you are not getting the capstone anyway, you probably benefit more from that 4th level of Paladin (spells, extra Smite Evil) than that 17th level of gunslinger (+1 damage/+1 will saves), since your damage and saves are already amazing by that point.

Paladins' 1st level spells include cool things like Divine Favor, Grace, Lesser Restorarion, Litany of Sloth and Protection From Evil. All of them are quite useful even with CL 3 (thanks to Magical Knack).

I think my favorite combinations is Gun 5 -> Pal 5 -> Gun +10. Oath of Vengeance Paladins are particullary good to compensate for the limited number of daily uses Smite Evil.
