i.e. If you have multiple items in the same slot you can't use all of them - but is there a way to switch between them/determine which is active and which isn't?
(for example if you are wearing two cloaks or three rings how would switching between which are active/not active work?)
Obviously if you remove an item entirely and stow it - and then take off the other, retrieve the second item and put it back on you can switch items (though some effects that require 24hrs or longer to active might not be immediately active) but is there any other options within the rules?
I'm specifically asking for PFS play where I have a character that is eyeing two different cloaks (the always useful perhaps too useful Cloak of Resistance and the far more flavorful and fun Cloak of the Hedge Wizard - probably divination but there are multiple tempting schools..). For character reasons the cloak of the hedge wizard would make a lot of sense - but as a character with an already poor save removing the option for resistance bonuses seems very risky (and the only alternative I've seen to a Cloak is the slotless Amber Spindle Ioun stone which even cracked is out of his PFS price range at his current PA levels - and 6000gp seems very expensive compared to the 1000 +1 cloak even if slotless)

There is no way to wear multiple magic item on the same slot (such as wearing 2 cloaks). I believe the only way to get around that would be to craft a custom item to use a different slot than normal, but this is not possible in pfs. So you will have to choose which cloak to go with. There is an item that allows you to wear 3 rings, but you would be giving up your neck slot to do so. You could always carry around multiple cloaks and switch them during combat, but any that are not being worn would be put away in a bag.

what actions are required to say, pull an amulet out of your handy haversack, switch it with the one you have on, and then put the one you have on back in the handy haversack?
It is a move action to retrieve a stored item, and another move action to store an item, both of which would prove an AoO. Or you could drop the item as a free action. As for switching an equipped item, there is no action listed for it in the CRB (pg 183). So I'd guess that's up to the gm. The one time I switched my neck slot item in combat, it was a free action (plus 2 moves to draw and store an item).
