Successful trip and further attacks

Rules Questions

So if my Leopard hits with his bite and succeeds with his trip attack, do the claw attacks apply to a Prone enemy with a -4 to AC?

Or are they simultaneous with the bite/trip and have no advantages that round?

Thanks.

Silver Crusade

If your Leopard substitutes a trip attack for its bite attack, and takes its remaining claw attacks against the same opponent - yes the opponent is prone - Leopard would gain the usual advantages.

Keep in mind that without Expertise and Improved Trip your Leopard is provoking an AoO with the trip attack. And if your Leopard fails by 10 or more, it will be tripped (prone) itself, without anymore attacks.

IMO you're better off taking advantage of your Leopard's natural grab ability and getting a free grapple off a pounce for raking damage.

Except:

Trip (Ex)
A creature with the trip special attack can attempt to trip its opponent as a free action without provoking an attack of opportunity if it hits with the specified attack. If the attempt fails, the creature is not tripped in return.

One more question: If the prone enemy stands up an provokes AoO, does the leopard get the full three attacks AND another trip attack? Or just one attack?

An AoO is a single attack.

Silver Crusade

Ah, I see what's going on here.

Leopard's don't have trip. They have grab. If you have a custom Leopard, with Bite(Trip) then:

1) Successful Bite = Free Trip

2) Free Trip is Successful, get two claw attacks vs a Prone opponent.
or
3) Free Trip unsuccessful, get two claw attacks.

More fun is getting your Leopard Greater Trip and Combat Reflexes, provoking an AoO when he trips and giving him another AoO if her foe stands up.

Toss in vicious stomp too!
