Divine Bond

Rules Questions

So this came up last night. My paladin just picked up a Holy Avenger. I am upgrading from a +1 Mithril Scimitar to a Holy Avenger. Yeah, wow. Anyways, the Divine Bond rules don't actually say what happens if a paladin wants to put his Divine Bond on a different weapon. It says he puts the Divine Bond on a specific weapon.

So there are two ways to look at this. Either it has to be this specific weapon every time or it can be any weapon. It says what happens if the weapon is broken, but it does not say whether this could happen to any weapon the divine bond is on or if this just applies to the specific weapon. I'm curious to know your thoughts on this because it seems silly to me to take 30 days of -1 to attack and damage just to change weapons when the paladin has done this voluntarily.

I see nothing stating it has to be specific weapon.
It is an activated ability that enhances weapon currently wielded and lasts for a limited time. Paladin suffers the noted penalty if weapon he imbued with Divine Bond is destroyed while the bond remains active.
I read it not as bond with weapon but as bond with celestial spirit that is used to imbue weapon.

My GM ruled that way as well. Just making sure.

Divine Bond (Sp): "The first type of bond allows the paladin to enhance her weapon as a standard action by calling upon the aid of a celestial spirit for 1 minute per paladin level.... If a weapon bonded with a celestial spirit is destroyed (bad stuff)"

It's only bonded for 1 minute per paladin level. If it's destroyed while bonded, bad stuff happens. If it's destroyed while not bonded, then nothing happens beyond your weapon being destroyed.

As long as the weapon is yours, there's nothing stopping you from bonding a different one every time you activate the ability.
