Polymorph - Combat Forms

Advice

Hello,

I am new to pathfinder. What are some good combat forms for polymorph? I appreciate in advance for the help.

Silver Crusade

Mechanically speaking, Dire Tiger is the best option for polymorph/beast shape II.

2 claws and a bite, Grab, Pounce and Rake.

5 attacks on a charge, free rakes on a grapple, will tear apart foes.

Thank you very MUCH!!

Anything else, besides the tiger? The dire tiger is in the first bestiary.

Also, what about the plant shape. Is there anything that is good for that?

I'm new. Where does this belong? SORRY!

Advice. See here.

It's cool.

Knowing is half the battle.

Please tell me where is a better place to post.

I am also interested in undead anatomy. Lastly, are there any good combat creatures using summom monster IV. They seem kind of weak.

Thanks and sorry again.

Beast Shape: Catoblepas is astounding as it can net you (in order of stat-block appearance):
- darkvision 60 ft.
- low-light vision
- Speed 40
- Swim 20
- 4 attacks (bite, gore, 2 hooves)
- space/reach 15 feet (at least until errata fixes it)
- a poisonous breath weapon that does ongoing CONSTITUTION DAMAGE and requires THREE CONSECUTIVE saves to stop!
- trample

Summon Monster IV: hound achon for tactics and special abilities, lion for pounce, or bison for trample.

Unfortunately, polymorph emulate beast shape II, so you cannot gain the benefits of Breath Weapon or Trample.

also, unfortunately, druid wild shape specifically says that you can only turn into an animal, plant, or elemental. catoblepas is a magical beast.

oh and i think elamdri meant to say beast shape 3. beast shape 4 lets you get breath weapons, but druid wild shape never acts like beast shape 4, so you can never get them.

Why are you casting polymorph when you could be casting Beats Shape III? Also, who said anything about Wild Shape?

oops my bad, i thought the OP was speaking about druids

Why beast shape III and what level III?

Beast Shape III is 5th-level, like Polymorph, only it is strictly more powerful (albeit marginally less versatile).

How is it more powerful?

Bear in mind that I am new.

It allows for more powerful forms such as Huge sized creatures with greater reach, senses, speed, attacks and defenses.

Do you know of any examples?

Absolutely anything of the Animal type from Tiny to Huge size or of the Magical Beast type from Small to Medium size.

Lions, tigers, and bears (oh my) as well as dinosaurs make for some good Animal examples.

As for Magical Beasts, you could turn into a basilisk, worg, trollhound, dweomercat, grodair, aranea, blink dog, bunyip, or krenshar just to name a few.

How do I get an update when someone posts? I believe, I have it set up right.

I do not know some of these magical beasts. I'll see if I can find them.

Preciate the help.

Is there no fleshraker or an equal?

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber; Pathfinder Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

Honestly, I don't know all of them either (particularly the grodair). I pulled them off of internet. All I know about all of them is that they ARE magical beasts of the appropriate sizes and that they were all published somewhere in a Paizo Pathfinder product (could be one of the three Bestiaries, or in a module or supplement book).

I don't know why beast shape III is better than polymotph.

Is there no fleshraker or an equal?

Can he transform into a dire tiger or a celestial dire tiger???

Silver Crusade

Mondreyes:

The reason that Beast Shape III is better than Polymorph is because Beast Shape III has more narrow use, while Polymorph has a broader use.

Polymorph explicitly lets you duplicate the effect of either Beast Shape II or Elemental Body I

Therefore, if you are turning into an animal, Beast Shape III is better than Polymorph, because Polymorph only lets you use Beast Shape II.

While this is a guide for Druids wildshaping, the same principles apply to Beast Shape, so I would read this

The short of it is, if you are looking for a Huge creature to transform into using Beast Shape III, Allosaurus from Beastiary 2 is the way to go. It's mechanically the same as a Dire Tiger, just bigger and meaner.

Elamdri - do you have links for the other parts of that guide you linked to? Seems really comprehensive but it is broken up into multiple parts - I'd like to see the other parts...

Silver Crusade

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Peterrco's Guide to Druids

Thanks for the suggestions. The beast shape III allows all of those and dire tiger?

Anyone got anything to add to this nice list?

The dire tiger seems much stronger.

The dire tiger seems much stronger.

Dire Tiger is better than Allosaurus for indoor encounters. But for outdoors, Allosaurus is better.

That's because both have Bite and 2 claws, pounce and rake and grab.

However, because Allosaurus is Huge, it has more strength and more NA, and more reach.

Worth noting that while the Spell Beast Shape III allows magical beasts as far as I know the Druid Wild Shape ability does not allow for Magical Beasts - just animals, elementals (only the basic elementals not newer elemental types) or plants (at the higher levels of druid)

Any favorites for magical beasts that work well. Dire tiger seems to be the current combat. Other magical beast combat forms and other one for tools, such as flying.

Thanks,

BEST ? what's the meanning?
biggest DPR ?
tactical option ?

the way i see it, it's complex on the situation :
biggest DPr when full attack and no DR = dire tiger
biggest DPR when there's DR = dire hippo and such with 4d8 base
movements options:
earth elemental for entering the floor / walls and attacking with cover / moveing without AOO and so on
air elemental fro ubber flying and vortex
giant cobra = best poison
there're plants with nice 4 attacks
dire APE for 3 attacks with reach.
clombing can be handy as well.

and so on ...
