Hello i`m trying to run a game for the first time but i keep hitting snags in making characters. Today`s snag is picking a deity for a cleric.I have searched every where i do not know if i am searching for it wrong or what. The only thing i can find is the back story on them and that`s it.If some one could lead me in the right direction it would be much appreciated. :)

Halfway down the page (sidebar box on the right) are links to the major/minor Golarion deities:

Not that I'm biased or anything....but Abadar is totally the best deity. Travel + Protection domains? Sweet. God of Travel, Merchants, Law, Lore, Nobility? Sounds like the portfolio of a pathfinder to me!
Please note: I am a total Abadar hack. Oracle, Cleric, 2 Paladins, and a Rogue of Abadar.
But seriously. He's the best. Just sayin...

My buds CG and he wants to heal so i was thinking maybe Milani?
Actually, if he's CG, he will be channeling positive energy anyway, no matter whether he follows a CG, CN or NG god.
Milani is a rather rare, but (in my opinion) solid choice.
Desna (also CG) carries a pretty bad weapon but gives some awesome domains.
If you want to focus in healing, you might want to have a look at (NG) Sarenrae.
For those who would enjoy a little twist of crazy, Groetus (CN) can be very interesting...

oh awesome. I was looking at Sarenrae but i thought they had to follow the same type of god as there Alignment.
By far, most clerics do.
You might view those clerics whose alignment differs from their deity's as being skirting the borders of the faith; maybe drifting dangerously close to heresy.

Just to clarify: a cleric has to be within one step of their deity on the alignment axis. In other words if your deity is NG you can be LG, NG, CG, or N.
This is how you can see clerics of evil deities in PFS despite the ban on evil aligned characters. Because of course the best choice is a LN cleric of Asmodeus.

So you're having trouble finding god... :)
Fixed the link for you BNW. The most up to date version of the wiki hasn't been on wikia since April 2011

Looks like we have similar taste. Yay for minor gods. Even my non-religous characters still have a favored deity they worship.
Musket Master / Inquisitor of Milani - "free the people!"Pistolero / White Haired Witch of Groetus - "when the world ends, we will put out the lights." (played as CG, which is rather strange)
Cold themed caster of Andoletta - "Grandmother Raven protects her children"
Dancing Bard-barian of Shelyn - "I'm just here to dance and look pretty"

LG tiefling cleric of Iomedae, with a grudge against demons/devils. ;)
This is where Castigar, my Tiefling Paladin of Iomedae, would be standing beside Thomas with his arms crossed over his fullplate, nodding.
