Sorshen the dungeon mistress

Gamer Life General Discussion

No, not that kind. Well, she is but that's besides the point.

For those who know what Chris Hansen's favorite runelord looks like, go check out Jack Chick's most popular comic.

Yes, the resemblance isn't perfect, but doesn't Ms. Frost look (and act) more like Sorshen than Vampirella?

.

This comic is ill-conceived and misleading, because
if it were true..

hard truth:

Where is the lesbian sex?

.

Who's Sorshen?

Wait, jack chick is still in business...i thought that that pathetic waste of flesh stopped a while ago...

Do you realize that linking Jack Chick is an Evil act?

And why are you even reading that crap?!

@Grand Magus: I doubt Sorshen would restrict herself to one gender, or species.

@DungeonmasterCal: Sorshen is the runelord of lust and subject of Shattered Star pt.2.

@Hama: I'm surprised that Chick hasn't taken down Dark Dungeons in a huff, he has my complements for being a good sport.

@Lord Fyre: Nobody takes Chick seriously, my food is more dangerous than he is. More to the point, I find the thought of Sorshen as an evil DM highly amusing.

I wonder how a game with her "fellow" runelords would go.

This has gotten interesting, but sadly I can't click links like this while at work.

I understand that. None the less, posting a lie to Jack Chick does move your alignment one step towards Evil.

When I was in college (>20 years ago), one of the guys in the gaming club actually bought a bunch of the Dark Dungeons Chick tracts and handed them out. We thought they were hilarious-- and a recruiting tool. "Our GMs are smokin' hot AND we'll teach you REAL MAGIC!"

I could see an argument being made for Chaotic instead, given the circumstances and intent =)

She's an NPC in the official Golarion campaign world: an ancient powerful wizard of the lost empire of Thassilon that held the title "Runelord of Lust."

I looked for a public image of her, but the official art is proprietary. She features prominently in Pathfinder #62: Curse of the Lady's Light.

Ah, I see.

I've told this story before, but since we're on the subject of the Reverend Chick I'll do it again. Back in the mid 80s my friends and I were playing D&D one night in a dormitory room. While we're playing, a copy of "Dark Dungeons" comes sliding under the door and into the middle of the room. We heard someone running down the hall, but never saw them.

So we read the tract, laughed in both disbelief and with ridicule, named our adventuring party "The Sons of Blackleaf" and soldiered on.

Oh when it comes to encounters with religious idiots, i have one, a pretty bad one actually. In the starting years of my gaming, we had a friend whose parents were extremely religious (Going to church a lot, praying every day lighting candles every sunday etc...). He was one of the first players in my group. And we had lots and lots of fun. Until one day, his mother came across the rulebook that he took home with him to read something. She burned it and forbid him to ever see us again. She actually made him change schools because of us. We tried to keep in touch but they forced him not to. So, after half a year of torture, my friends and i finally snap, go to their home and rip into them verbally. I think we talked for an hour while they just sat there looking at us.
After we were done, his father stood up and said "God has forsaken you. Leave my house child of the devil". I kid you not. And his mother produced a cross and started spraying holy water at us. I think i was so furious at that moment that i could have done something bad, if not for my friend (their son) who stopped me and announced that he was leaving them to live with his grandmother, who was, thankfully, a pretty hip old lady (he was one of the first people in my circle of acquaintances to buy a tablet). He never spoke to his parents again.
And, unfortunately he has a brother who grew up to be a religious bigot, and became a priest. He now preaches about evils of devil worship and how it claimed his brother's soul.
It was a good thing i was 15 at the time, as if i were older, i might have done something rash like beating the crap out of his father.

Those are not exclusive. :)

There was the whole Satanic conspiracy scare in the '80s, which never made any sense to me, especially at the time. It wasn't just D&D-- that was a sideshow to the Satanic ritual abuse scare-- which itself turned out to be based on junk psychology like suppressed memories and Recovered Memory Therapt (RMT), which psychologists are now convinced implants false memories.

I mean-- I'm a Christian, and until recently, one of my players was a Presbyterian minister!

It was music, literature, movies, everything. And the number of people who believed (and still believe, I've discovered) "Monsters and Mazes" was based on real events stymies me.

And like Haladir, up until a few weeks ago one of my players was a Nazarene youth pastor.

Yep, that's her. This mini looks just like the illo on p.17 of Inner Sea Magic.

Here's a review of her:

"There is a strange regal nature to her stance, and a serious vibe of danger with that weapon behind her back. I also like the fact that she is actively walking toward you. It’s a strange menace that comes off this piece."

Chick is pretty bad about screwing up one moral while trying to preach another. Nearly all his pamphlets are like that.

* Laughs *

You obviously haven't been communicating with hardline right wing wackos. I debunked Jack Chick to a bunch of RWWs. I said that he denounces role-players and that he causes discrimination based on a hobby which fosters and exercises creativity. One RWW disavows that RPGs have anything to do with Creativity and still thinks I'm satan's spawn; and sat there and endorsed Jack Chick.

So, AlgaeNymph, in a world of 7 Billion humans, there are people who take Jack Chick seriously. They aren't libertarians, go figure. :P

Well, if she were a nudist, she wouldn't represent lust. *BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!* I can dress a lust runelord in far worse than that. Case in point (warning, may not be safe for where you work!)

Although I think Naga the White Serpent's outfit is much more racier and perfect for a Runelord of lust, considering it's leather lingerie.

Thing about Chick is that he hates the roman catholic church with a vitriol that makes his views on roleplaying games look lukewarm. The man has drawn other tracts that detail this in length, and like the above-mentioned tract, make for hilarious reading.

I believe he's some variant of Baptist.

Not Westboro, thank God. Even Chick isn't that cracked.

In addition to his Catholic-bashing, Mr. Chick really, really hates the Freemasons, Mormons, Muslims, Jehovah's Witnesses, "evolutionists" (whatever the heck those are-- I think he means any mainstream scientist), and any other self-identified Christian that doesn't entirely agree with his destructive, accusatorial, bigoted, and close-minded theology.

Honestly, I think the guy's a raving lunatic.

Anyone who doesn't believe in young earth Creationism. So both theistic evolutionists and supporters of non-religious-based history.

Oh noes, Jack Chick hates me... I must try not to sink beneath my despair, and soldier on. ;P

I hope that when I die one day, the Westboro nuts will stand screaming outside my funeral. That way, those present will know I did something right.

Reading about stuff like this makes me sort of happy that I'm Jewish, though I'm then swiftly reminded of the bad parts of such.

Reading and writing about stuff like that makes me happy that i'm an atheist.

I will remind people that the comic was NOT christian.
It openly sinned and tried to claim that was good.

I will also remind people that most Christians are NOT like that. I may not be the typical Christian, but it horrifies me to see sin openly celebrated as it would horrify most good Christians. This author is self delusional and carnal in his approach.

Lastly I would remind people that there ARE crazy people of ALL faiths even crazy atheists out there in the real world. Blaming this on one religion is as bad as what the author himself is doing.

No need to fear, I don't judge anyone merely by their religious beliefs.

Except maybe muslims. /Horrible joke

Anyway, I am pretty sure most people are aware of that fact.
The guy who did the comic is a singular idiot, not meant to represent Christianity as a whole.

I certainly never saw Chick as any kind of representative of christians anywhere. Partially because he hates most of them with a passion, it strikes me that doing so would be about as fair as seeing him as a representative of roleplayers. The guy is a nut.

We should list the many reasons why he hates each one of us. The poster with the most reasons wins.

1) I am a Roman Catholic (at least officially)

2) I am a roleplayer

3) I am an Evolutionist

Only 3 reasons. Must find some others
