Which Perform skills are audible and which are visible?

Which Bardic Performances are tied to which Perform skills? In short, which ones are auditory, and which ones are visual?

I know it's listed somewhere, but I keep losing it, finding it, and losing it again. It never seems to be readily available when someone plays a bard in our games.

I never even knew there was a list. I always thought it was up to GM judgement.

It is given in each discription, but I don't remember seeing a list or table. I hope there is because it is important.

I think I found it. It's shown under the Countersong and Distraction class abilities.

Audible Perform (keyboard, percussion, wind, string, or sing)

Visual Perform (act, comedy, dance, or oratory)

That means the following Bardic Performances can use the listed Perform skills:

Countersong Perform (keyboard, percussion, wind, string, or sing)

Distraction Perform (act, comedy, dance, or oratory)

Technically, none of the other Bardic Performances even use Perform skills. Go figure. :P

EDIT: I'm beginning to realize that my two initial questions aren't really related at all, and in fact have VERY different answers. X{

They don't? I thought they did. Odd.

Guess I made a false connection between the Performanceand the Perform Skill.

Oratory is visual? And I can see comedy going in both.

I'm pretty sure Dance, Tap is audible.

RD's list seems correct from the viewpoint of real life fitting into game mechanics. One could argue though that getting only one aspect of some performance (watching the actor while deaf, etc.), would impose some small penalty, such as a one does using improvised thieves tools.

RD's list is RAW-correct. Oratory not being audible is silly though. And comedy can indeed go to either, as can (voice?) acting.

They were just trying to pad out the visual list to be equal in size to the audible, I'm sure. Going to great lengths for symmetry on that end seems odd for a class that specifically can't cast spells w/o sound, though.

You can argue (tap) dance is audible without much effort, so they could have just say EVERYTHING is audible.

Visual performances are all limited by lack of official masterwork tools anyways, so it works out.

1 person marked this as FAQ candidate. 1 person marked this as a favorite.

To support Oratory being considered an audible performance, the Evangelist Cleric archetype (Ultimate Combat) presents another factor to consider. That class can use a list of bardic performances via the Perform Oratory skill which curiously includes Countersong and NOT Distraction.
