My recent campaign involves a LN Inquisitor of Iomadae. He says his mission in life is to destroy evil.
My rogue is of LE alignment, the inquisitor is convinced that if he detects evil on me and finds i am evil it is in his nature to kill me.
This to me seems rediculous, almost as if he thinks he can kill me without any issue of alignment or religion etc.
My question is, how do i tell him he doesnt have to kill something just because of its alignment. That seems 'unlawful' to me.

Ridiculously and robotically absolutist PCs tend to make for bad game experiences. LN Inquisitor needs to lay off the Judge Dredd and Warhammer 40k and see that characters, PC and NPC alike, are far more complex and present far more possibilities than "do kill" or "do not kill". Put him in any location where something like the Church of Asmodeus is an accepted, even if unfortunate, aspect of society and he's not going to last very long. He certainly won't be winning over any hearts and minds or meaningfully forwarding his goddess' goals at the very least.
At least he's aware he's not playing Good, so there's that.
None of the iconics, neutral ones included, have killed Seltyiel yet. That's not to say the LE rogue should never be killed no matter what he does, but that judgment needs to be based on what he does, not the letters in his alignment.

How is it unlawful? I don't see it as breaking any laws.
If anything, the situation seems more in line with the traits of a Lawful Stupid character than a Stupid Good or something.
lol! My ln character might have to use that phrase in the next game! LN can be hard to play sometimes. My ln character only attacks people who use their non-neutral alignment as an excuse to attack people...

Well I would argue here now that someone that pings on Detect Evil (so is a cleric or at least 5th level) didn't get to be evil by ... well not being evil.
He might break local laws however, thats a whole different story though

If you arent 5th level i dont believe you detect as evil. Don't do evil acts in his presence and he shouldn't have any reason to suspect you anyway.
Personally i think PCs have enough to deal with without having to worry about their teammates gunning for them. If he continues to threaten your rogue and pvp is accepted in your group remind him even the most righteous inquisitors have to sleep sometime.
I know i wouldnt want to have a hostile rogue around me while i was asleep and helpless, wide open to a coup de grace.
Remind him youre on the same team and he should really be more concerned about enemies outside the group instead of percieved enemies within the group. Or at the very least to sleep with one eye open.
