I'm working on a goblin mounted on a bear sculpted by Tre Manor. I'm trying out greybrushing, so I've primed him black and drybrushed a brown and then an off white.

Well he's pretty much done and ready for the table top. It has a coat of matte sealer as well. Still looks very shiny when zoomed in, but you can't tell when its in your hand.

Yep. Since it's so much easier to buy miniatures than actually paint them i have quite a backlog to go through. As a new years resolution this year i set up a goal to paint at least one metal miniature a week. During may this year i change the rule to at least one metal miniature or four plastic miniatures (which are done by the dip method). I'm happy to say that so far i've been able to keep ahead of my goal with a total of 144 painted (61 metal miniatures and 83 plastic).
If i'm going to have any hope of painting all my miniatures i'm going to have to keep this up for some time :)
This week i've only finished 8 prepainted miniatres (mage knight vampire spawn) that are drying, but i hope to finish at least one metal miniature as well.
Last week i finished 2 metal miniatures and 4 prepainted.

I also had to rebase a few miniatures on which i had used bases with a lip (like these), which doesn't fit within the squares/hexes on the gaming boards i use the miniatures on.

This is what i'm currently have on my workbench.
On top of them i have three shelves of miniatures, two small plastic boxes and my other prepainted plastic miniatures to paint.
Large plastic miniatures. These will be repainted and dipped.
Priority 1 shelf (part 1): Monsters, Pathfinder Iconics, one Avatars of War a few Hasslefree and a bunch of Red Box Games
Priority 1 shelf (part 2): Dark Sword Miniatures and other prepaints
Priority shelf 2 (part 1): Monsters and bad guys (in this case savages for Serpent's skull which i plan to run sometime)
Priority shelf 2 (part 2): rest of the Pathfinder Miniatures, both Reaper and the Pathfinder Chronicles Miniatures
Priority shelf 2 (part 3): Rest of the Reaper Miniatures
Priority shelf 3 (part 1): Western miniatures (for when i eventually get to play Deadlands), modern miniatures and two Game Workshop miniatures.
Priority shelf 3 (part 2): Non gaming miniatures, Black Scorpion pirates and misc.
I've got my work cut out for me.

I almost responded to this a few days ago. But since this is the "miniatures" forum I didn't. But now I feel like it might still be worth responding.
I am currently not painting any miniatures. What I am painting is a bunch of terrain. I have been busily creating modular terrain from Hirst Arts blocks that I've been casting by the drawerful. I've probably cast a couple thousand blocks from Hirst molds and now I am starting to make stuff.
So here is one example of what I've been painting. It's an underground cavern/cave that I will be using in my next session. Here is a closeup on some of the cavern wall elements.
And here is something I haven't begun to paint yet because I'm trying to nail down exactly how high to make the walls. It's a bunch of modular dungeon segments that can be assembled into tunnels and rooms for a 3D terrain map. Right now I have 1" high walls, but I am thinking I might go to 1.5" or even 2" high. I don't want to paint until I'm sure how high they will be.
For the cavern floor and walls I used a combination of the "dip" method and some washes and dry brushing. I will likely use the same method for the dungeon modules once I decide how high to make the walls.
The main difference between painting terrain and miniatures is that for terrain it's all about volume. I am painting square feet of stuff, not a fraction of a square inch. :)

Last night and tonight I've been painting a reaper cleric, Olivia 65062.
I need to go in and fix the silver freehand it blodged out in some places.
Just finishing up Alahazra, the iconic Oracle.
Now not even my already lousy digicam will talk to my computer, so here, have a dodgy, blurry picture taken with my phone.
Need to paint and flock her base, and touch anything else up I probably missed.
Also, I am fairly certain tiny 28 mm tall pixies sculpted this miniature life-size to them, as I cannot imagine how an ordinary human being managed to sculpt the insane level of detail on this mini.

Ha! I just did a set of the Blood Bowl starter teams, with a Skaven and Dwarf team coming soon. I was inspired to dig out my Blood Bowl stuff by the imminent release of Dreadball...
I've also done some work on a Games Workshop chimera (what a beast!), a few NPCs for my home campaign, some monsters and villains for Rise of the Runelords (hopefully starting soon...)
But I get distracted easily, so who knows what I'll be working on next...
I paint very very slowly, and have a bunch of partially finished miniatures sitting on my mantle for whenever I feel like working on them more.
I just finished painting a Hordes miniature as an ogre mage with a spear (ie red-skinned like a Pathfinder ogre mage).
I'm currently working on a set of Reaper Pathfinder goblin pyros (4), a Reaper Chronoscope Modern Witch, a Reaper Pathfinder Grandmaster Torch, a Chronoscope Abraham Van Helsing, a set of Dark Heaven Legends vampire spawn (one male and one female), a Dark Sword Miniatures Elmore Masterworks Set #9 miniature, and a Chronoscope British Bobby.
I'm also "working on" a Reaper Dark Heaven Legends Angel of Radiance, but I haven't touched her in probably 18 months so I don't know if "working on" still counts for her. More like procrastinating on her, because I don't feel I can do her justice.
The current state of the mins:
Goblins: based, primed black, sort of, and washed with gray to see details.
witch: based, roughly painted in skin and purple but needs to be detail painted.
Grandmaster Torch: based, primed black and drybrushed white to see details.
Van Helsing: based, dipped in Future, washed black to see details, base painted gray. (I think he looks really cool this way, actually.)
Vampire Spawn: based, dipped in Future, washed black to see details, bases painted gray. (I think he looks really cool this way, actually.)
Elmore mini: based, painted, in a touch-up phase before a blackwash.
British bobby: based, painted, washed, varnished, but I don't know what to do with his base as it is just painted plain gray right now and I kind of want to do something so it looks like he's on a sidewalk.
The Angel of Radiance is based, primed black and dry-brushed white. Her wings are painted white and unattached.
I also have a Chronoscope Santa Claus that I've opened and washed. He's ready to be based but I kind of want to incorporate him into a diorama somehow. I've never done a diorama so he's in a holding pattern until I know what I'm doing with him.
After painting a Reaper Brass bull (as a gorgon), a WarMachine Heavy Warjack (as a blood golem), a Heavy Metal Fantasy boneswarm, and the most recent Hordes figure (as an ogre mage), I have to say I think painting large monsters is definitely easier than painting people. The next miniature I undertake will probably be large-sized.

Patrik Ström, what are you using for a sealer? I'm not sure if it is the flash, or if it is the sealer, but it is a very shiny looking in the pictures. Is it just as shiny in hand? If so you might want to try a quick coat of dullcoat.
I use what I can purchase from the local gaming store, which is Vallejo Model Color Varnish. Since I use my miniatures for gaming, and I'm fed up with having the paint peel of them, I kind of drown all finished miniatures in the stuff. I use two layers of gloss varnish and one layer of matt varnish. They are abit less shiny in hand but I wouldn't mind getting them abit duller. Some parts are however places where I've missed with the matt varnish.

Unfortunatly, many of my paints dried up by being stuck in a moving box in my garage through an entire summer and now half of a winter.
at least I have a bunch coming in with my reaper bones order... Now I just need to learn to pin things (I have 94 sculpts to paint before counting the bones minis, most of the ones I'm more excited to paint need pinning first)

I have quite a few things on the go... as for mini's, I have a pile of about 100 minis on my table right now waiting for me to do something with.
I counted 64 metal minis and 34 plastic Hero Quest minis, (plus those plastic spider and dracolich toys that I may paint over as well).
I'll see about getting better, more up close and personal pics of each one as I work on them.

The paizo jabberwocky will be a nice addition and upgrade from my old jabberwocky.
(I think I painted that old, smaller jabberwocky close to 20 years ago. It's only 2" tall (on a 1.5" base). I'm also glad to say my painting skills have come a long way since then too)

I'm going to keep building on my new years resolution from last year (paint a minimum of 1 metal miniature for real or 4 plastic quick dip). Alas I did not keep my resolution (week 47-49 didn't produce a single miniature) but overall it was somewhat successful. The tally from 2012 was 81 metal miniatures and 119 plastic.

It's been a slow start in the metal miniature department. I've only managed to finish one, the Templar Knight from Reaper.
I've also finished 10 plastic dips, but they're drying at the moment so I don't have any pictures of them.
Thanks. I think it worked out quite well although picking a decent color scheme is my biggest problem. Sometimes it feels that I don't know any other colors than blue, red or green. I also seemt to be stuck with painting almost every cloak brown. I think my main trouble is that I can't really paint white or black.
Not yet, I ordered the horses, so I'm going to be one of the last. At the current rate I expect sometime near the end of january beginning of feb (international shipping).
I'm waiting as well. I didn't take any horses though so I think my number is coming up soon. Hopefully in the batch Tre posted about in his latest update today.
Eventhough my honest to god best intentions of reducing the size of my unpainted pile I fear that this year will only add to it. I placed money into the reaper kickstarter (like everyone else:) at vampire level, the RBG one (and will do it again for the new kickstarter) at the sjatte level (i think), the Otherworld Miniature Kickstarter for all the boxes and at some level (can't remember which) with the Troll Forge Alien Assimilation kickstarter.
I'm going to be set for life really, although I doubt it will stop me from buying more minis.

The plastic dips from week 01:
Abyssal Eviscerator and an Imp. Took these basically because there's not much to them and they would finish quick.
Wood woad. I've had this one primed for a long time so I thought it was time to finally finish it (since it's not a real effort).
A couple of Grimlocks and an Intellect Devourer. I plan to use the Grimlocks if (no, when!) I get to kick off a Beast and Barbarians campaign. I plan to start it with the adventure The Carnival of Nal Sagath. The grimlocks are going to serve as palemen. I've also got a few other DDM miniatures I'm going to paint in similar fashion. The intellect devourer god finishes just because it was a very quick paintjob.

Reapers HD Woodland Brown and then highlight HD Desert Tan, and then devlan mud washes. I think. Didn't write it down, which was foolish.
I just started a Protectorate of Menoth army, in Warmachine, so I have a bunch of minis to paint. Sadly, I recently lost all my painting supplies (long story) so I'm starting over from scratch. Which sucks.
I prefer to have a bunch of different colours available for spur-of-the-moment decisions, rather than planning out everything I need in advance.

Unsolicited advice:
Most whites and blacks are only purely white or black at their highlights or shades respectively. The trick then is to use a good grey for the inbetween. I like bluish grays, which have some depth. Black with a drybrush or highlight with a bluishgray, leaving all dark areas as dark as possible/reasonable; white build up FROM a blue gray till your highest highlight is white. If you make your black too light, that it looks totally gray rather than black, use a black ink or wash to shade it back down.

Patrik's miniature painting project 2013, week 02
It's the second week of my quest to turn as much of my pile of unpainted miniatures into painted ones. Didn't manage to finish more than one miniature this week either, hope I will have better luck next week. Something I hope I have better luck with (or rather skill) is to photograph the damn thing. The photo's didn't come out to well.
This weeks miniature is Valloa, female elf thief. Overall I'm kinda pleased with how the miniature came out, but her face is way to pale. It doesn't look quite like that in hand, still next time I need to work abit more on the face.
Like last week I've also managed to finish 10 repainted plastic miniatures with quick shade dip.

Right now im finishing up my gaming table during my off time and this past month i managed to do 3 metal minis. plus other non mini projects. I too have faaaaar too many minis to paint, but im trying to be better about finishing my current projects before i start on anything else.
AND then there was the Reaper Kick Starter that kicked my plan in the butt. I am hopefully that by the time they show up I will be ready for the big Minis Im getting.

Inspired by this, I painted one Hordes Argus, a two-headed wolf with a white color scheme. It was way harder than I thought. A bluish grey/white was a good idea, much better looking than a solid white shade. I'll try to post some pics later, but thanks for the advice I stole! =)
