Ok, played this over the weekend with Dexios, my Silver Crusade character. I ended up overprotective of the stupid little freak, and was sad to see I couldn't take her as a boon. (Something like "Goblin follower.")
Has anyone else wanted to adopt her? She reminds me of Meepo from that other RPG's adventure.

She became one of my player's "Hype-goblin" after the scenario. She goes forth announcing the presence of the great and talented bard, Lela Stardust.
Not really but, yes really.
I can say that after having run this scenario twice as a GM, I really appreciate having such fun and well supported NPCs to play.
PS I don't know what a Meepo is and I'm not going to google it because it sounds like Anime.
PPS Ain't got room in me brain for Anime facts.

Nah, not anime at all. Meepo was a kobold NPC in WotC's first 3E module (The Sunless Citadel; I think he showed up elsewhere later, as well), and became kind of a beloved little mascot to some players.

Glad everyone likes her.
She was a blast to roleplay. I took liberties and targeted players who would fall in love with her and be motherly, protective or friendly with her. A few players got sobbing goblin snot on their trousers when they'd show her kindness apart from all the abuses she lived through.

Haha. I haven't thought about that kobold in a long time. Ours was renamed and was an amazingly well equipped 12th level fighter before we finished. I was certain that at any time he was going to disappear and start his own reign of terror with the hand me down gear he had received.
I'm looking forward to running this scenario for my group. I see many prestige points being spent to have her as a vanity.

When I ran it Ekkie put her sleight of hand skills to use.
After defeating the first Patrol in the sewer the players were helping people out of the pit she made a sleight of hand to steal an alchemist's fire from one of the downed goblins. All 6 of the players and the Eidolon made a perception check. They assumed they were perceiving things about the dead Gobs.
She rolled a 27 on her Sleight of Hand and the highest perception in the group was 24.
The group looted the bodies and found the leftover vials, minus the ones the Goblins hurled at the party. One member of the group wanted to give her one. Everyone else in the party was vehemently against giving the Goblin guide fire. Ekkie hid her smile and cooed softly to Plarg.
Next room more goblins killed, more alchemist fire found. Ekkie didn't get a chance to steal any this time since she was too amazed by all the explosions. Once again with an excess of vials one player attempted to give her a vial. Once again the rest of the party objected.
Next next room a 10' gap separates the party from a rude singing Goblin who says lots nasty things.
Somewhere in the second round, Ekkie made her first attack action of the scenario. Charging to the edge of the chasm she produces, from seemingly nowhere, a vial of fire. She chucks it at the nearest henchman and drops him in a gout of flame.
Where did you get that Ekkie?! Ekkie just smiles.

I, uh, executed the goblin vermin at the table I played at GenCon. (I had been playing up Hayato taking the position of "I'm not participating in interrogating her, but I have promised to introduce her to my naginata" after confirming that goblins were considered vermin in Magnimar with the table GM).
I hate (cute things that eat babies) goblins.

Goblins. Vermin. No legal rights. Executed in a clean and merciful manner without either physical or psychological torture.
*shrug* From what I recall (I've not read super closely on the Samurai), that seems quite in keeping with the characteristics of Hayato.
And no matter whether you're playing a pregen or your character you've spent hours on backstory with, that's every reason to roleplay. It was, as Andrew recalls, very in character for the manner in which I was playing the PC, and called out in the post before yours as having been 'shocking and awesome'. Your implication that I wasn't role-playing in my sole slot at GenCon that I got to sit as a player is.... insulting at best.
*sigh*

I can fully vouch for Tetsujin's role playing ability. I've seen many a Hayato played without any true RP attempt. This man did a great job, both as a player and role player.
He played Hayato as a man of the law who saw this vermin thief come to justice. Once she was no longer useful for giving information, her sentence was carried out. At no time was he cruel or vindictive, just doing what was in his mind the correct course of action: execute the vermin that are infesting the town.
The shocking and awesome part was how unexpected it was (we had just finished a conversation with her) while remaining completely foreshadowed (Hayato had suggested many times that she would die). It wasn't a problem at the table, and we all knew it was coming.
Tetsujin: Bravo.

Sveden, I'm thinking you have a very different view of the Society than I do...
Also, have to admit I haven't looked into the samurai class much beyond what's printed on the pregen, so I've got only a faint idea about the Order mechanics. No character binder with me when I was shifted from overflow GM to playing that slot, so grab a pregen and roll with it.
ETA: Ronin Order adhering to the Society's three-word mission statement appears to be the writeup. So between the grand lodge mission and finding and exploring the goblin guild's territory in cooperation with the party, he seems to be upholding his order just fine. (which is what my first blush recollection of Hayato had been...)

Oh hey! Look at that. I was sure that wasn't the case. Oh well.

I love Meepo! I'll have to upload a drawing my wife did of Meepo when he showed up in our 3.5 game a few years back. The players decided to have him take a few levels of wizard; Meepo wasn't a very good sorcerer!
I ran Rise of the Goblin Guild just a few weeks ago, and that table wanted to axe her. Didn't help that they kept failing perception checks to see all of the alchemist fire she lifted!

Kind of hard to slip one past my sniper..er.. musket master/grenadier. I tend to see a LOT of things first. Some of the groups I've run with typically get a hint that something is up when I SHOOT the folks waiting to bushwack them.
Of course Ekkie liked me.. I make loud noises, peoples heads explode and I give her FIRE!

I have run this twice now & in both cases the party has ended up very friendly with her....So what I offered to my players is that if they wanted to spend the 2 PA to get a city contact that I would write on the Chronicle next to this purchase is that Ekkie would be that contact for the fluff purpose of getting the extra info. Once they make the roll they could add some flavor that extra knowledge would come in the form of the friendly goblin getting them some garbage with interesting tidbits and some secrets.
I was thinking it was a way to help tie the character experiences in the city together & gives the players a fun way to pass along to the party what they might learn through one of those early knowledge checks.

When I ran it Ekkie put her sleight of hand skills to use.
spoiler:The first patrol was out of alchemist fire by the time Ekkie got to their bodies, when I ran it. The party did comment that the goblins were using Soviet tacits, as two goblins had one dogslicer between them.It wasn't until after the Flushing Compartment encounter when they handed Ekkie back her dogslicer, and she said "I will not need this." and hands them the inferior weapon that they laughed as they realize what had happened.
The party I ran had Ekkie hold a light source. When they were searching a room the light suddenly dimmed and they turned to see Plarg's skull floating in the air with light streaming from his eye sockets. Ekkie's voice floated across the room saying "OOOooo Plarg say give Ekkie back her stuff and let her leave, or ..." The party was laughing before the ultimatum could be finished.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

A player of mine was asking about her skull, and how she polishes it.
I looked up from my notes, put on a big smile, and just said "Haaannnnnnndddddd sweeeeeaaaaattttttttt!"
Grossed every player out. I did my job.
Anyway, on a related note, the Silver Crusade player befriended her, and ended up releasing her back into the wild.

I learned how to play Rat-a-tat. And Ekkie loves my spicy cooking(fire in mouth).
[The GM wrote "Learned how to play Rat-a-tat", and "Ekkie, a goblin near Magnimar, loves your cooking.+2 vs Ekkie at GM discretion" on this character's chronicle sheet. She was real fun to have around and even fireballed some goblins for us.]

Did Ekkie ever become a Pathfinder. She wanted to join after my team rescued her.
Ekkie please write! We miss you!
Ekkie misses the longshanks to. Ekkie would love to have a shinny that points a certain way all the time, but me enjoying helping out at horse-killing place. If me no like horse-killing place, me try to join longshanks tribe.

I just ran this Saturday. I absolutely loved Ekkie, and she definitely reminded me of Meepo. In fact, I kept calling her that at the table and enough players knew the reference I wasn't corrected.
I miss Meepo. I'm hoping kobolds are opened for play at some point. As soon as they are Meepo becomes a PC.

We stuck Ekkie in a sack, threw horse meat into the sack periodically, and carried her around the sewers.
We stuck her in my backpack with only her hands out to hold a sunrod. Well, until we started noticing traps, took her out so she could go first, ended up not, and forgot to put her back. She still carried our light for us though.
