Question about 1st level monk, using 2 full attcks of flurry of blows

Rules Questions

Silver Crusade

I'm under the impression that I can make 2 attcks with my unarmed strike as a full round action at my full BAB. If this is true, then what is the point of a flurry of blows, which is at a -1 for both attacks?

When using flurry of blows, your base attack bonus (from monk levels) is equal to your monk level, which is a step higher than the monk's normal base attack bonus. The normal BAB is 3/4ths the monk's level.

At first level, the only way for any character to attack twice in a round is to use a weapon in each hand. Since a Monk's unarmed strikes are considered light weapons, without Flurry of Blows, the monk would attack at a -4 to the main hand and a -8 to the off hand. (See the "Two-Weapon Fighting" section of the core rules.)

Flurry of Blows does two things for the Monk: First, it allows him to use his monk level as his BAB (so at first level, he would use +1 instead of +0). Second, it lets him fight as if he had the Two-Weapon Fighting feat, which is -2 to both main and off hand. Combined with the extra BAB, this nets the listed -1/-1 from the Monk table.

Does that help?
