Question on Banner of the Ancient Kings:
The item text says the flag can be mounted on a longspear or pole, which should be wielded with two hands. Can the banner also be mounted on other two-handed polearms, such as a lance or a glaive? What about a wooden-hafted weapon, such as a greataxe?

Quote:If mounted on a longspear or pole at least 8 feet in length...Does your greataxe have a haft that's 8 feet?
Maybe if it's a Dwarven Longaxe?
EDIT: Good catch about the 8 feet though, I missed that. That means a Glaive wouldn't work(the pole is only 7 feet, though the blade is quite long as well). Other reach weapons tend to have an undefined length, though...

Call me a stickler but I would say it can only be mounted on a Longspear or pole since it only says it can be mounted on a longspear or pole.
I would think that if the intent of the banner would be to be mounted on any two handed hafted weapon they would have said exactly that and not been so extremely limiting in their selection.

So.. would Lance be close enough to a Longspear? In many an illustration and story, the Knight rode forth with pennons and flags on his Lance.
Not RAW. The item is explicit in what can be used.
That said, I would say this would not be an unreasonable home rule for use with a lance on foot. But I think they Banner they are talking about as an item is akin to the reginmental banners used to lead men in battle. At 24 square feet in size (4' x 6') it is like attaching a full sized blanket to your weapon and then whipping it around in combat. Think about that. :-) Probably would not be really viable for a lance on horseback.
The pennants used on lances served similar concepts (to show house colors and sigils and inspire) but were usually radically smaller (or else they would weigh down the lances too much).
At the end of the movie 'The Patriot' Mel Gibsons character waves an American flag mounted on a longspear/pike and then uses it to skewer a red coat in a later scene. The flag is about the size of a banner of this sort. If you mounted that on a Lance it would be pretty unusable.
