Ok..I'm not exactly sure where to post this, so do please forgive me. I typically play a lot of fantasy RPG's, but lately I just can't find one that keeps me hooked and I decided to give tabletops a try with a few friends, the only problem being none of us have ever really tried anything without a controller in our hands lol.
I have read the rules a bit, and a little about GM'ing, and I am just curious to be honest about how everything works. I assume you just use the rules to make a campaign based on the game world right? As in, there isn't really any set path for you to adhere to? Just respond to the GM's story in the fashion your character would, is how i understand it.
I'm thinking about purchasing us the beginner box before we go ahead and buy a bunch of world settings, I just had to clarify all I've spent reading today. Thank you!
Paizo's bread and butter is adventure paths that are per-generated actually. If your not looking to spend any money they do have some free ones as well you can poke around in. That is if you are asking about story lines. If you are asking about how to react and what to do, yes you are completely free to react and come across as however you feel.
You sound like you've got the right idea. In my view, the beginner box would be an excellent (and terrific value) introduction for people like you. That would be my suggested starting place, for sure.
Ohh, sounds fun! And glad I'm not interpreting it all wrong. Hopefully we will have something to do other than TCG's every Saturday .-.
Fast replies o.o shew! Thanks Steve! I'll take it into consideration.
Question, are you a computer or console gamer? If so which systems? How old are you etc? Trying to get a feel for the advice I should lend.
Welcome to the hobby Silver Templar! I hope you and your friends enjoy your up and coming adventures! If you have any other questions as you guys continue to dive in, just let us know, and I'm sure you'll have your answers in no time!
At the risk of going off topic, little bit of both. Mostly PS2 and SNES RPG's...lotsa Shin Megami Tensei and FF6 x3 17 going on 3 age wise, fun times! I did play a lot of WoW too but the grind got to me.
Thank you friendly Neighborhood Porkchop! I look forward to it ^^
Welcome to the boards, SilverTemplar.
The Beginner Box would be a good starting point, if you want to upgrade to the Core rules, the PRD can help in letting you glace into the Full version.
Paizo is currently having it's 10th Anniversary Sale Or with the Scratch N Dent so you could pick up some great content.
The urge to use MMO tactics are going to kick in. Don't.
Also, don't ever be afraid to ask questions.
You are about to join the ranks of Jimi Hendrix, Robin Williams, and Vin Diesel. Be sure to remember that having fun is the most important part of the game.
Oh, I had no idea about any discounts lol. Guess I chose a good time to be interested! I already have a draft for a campaign written up, little excited :P
Then I would say if you wanted to play a game that felt the most like a tabletop rpg to get a feel, look to the bioware games: dragon age, baldurs gate, knights of the old republic. They were pretty lovingly crafted to mirror a lot of D&D ism's.
I'll definatly keep up my inquisitive nature intact. I guess knowing when to run is a decent ability to have...or when not to trust that something is going to wail on your platey.
With my new found power I will promise to preserve truth, justice, and the right to insomnia :')
Ohh! I played KotOR! I almost forgot about the little gems the Xbox had! Anyway, I'm going to bed. Thank you for all the help, to everyone!

Welcome to the group! I too played a lot of PS2 and PC games and there is a major difference with table top games. In electronic games there is a lot of instant gratification and you can get really far in a short amount of time. In table top games that is not always the case. Your characters can do so much more and battles take a long time.
I hope things work out for you and if you get stuck come here and ask questions. There are a lot of knowledgable people who are friendly, infomrative, and willing to help you ASAP!
