My first Char. Ranger

Advice

Silver Crusade

I am new to the pen and paper RPG. This is my first character that I am using for Pathfinder Society. Hopefully I have everything in place but honestly, I am not 100% sure. Thanks for all the feedback and advice!

Profession - Architect 5
Spellcraft 6
Stealth 8
Swim 6

Is he elf? If not try and balance your wisdom and con to 12 each. Your fort save should be +2, and you'd be better off with a chain shirt rather than chainmail if you can afford it. It makes you faster, it's lighter, and has the same bonus to AC with an 18 dex. It's armor check is lower as well.

it looks good. you need to get a melee weapon, whether it be a dagger or a great sword, you will eventually need a melee weapon.

i havent had to swim once in PFS so i would change swim to climb. item creation doesnt exsist in PFS so drop craft and keep profession architect.

im also pretty sure rich parents is not allowed for traits, but i could be wrong about that.

Silver Crusade

He is an Elf actually. I will edit the post.

I saw the mistake with the FORT Save and will look at the chain shirt.

Is there anything else?

Thanks for the advice! I will switch those skills.

Anyone know for sure if Rich Parents is allowed for PFS?

I think you are over build points? PFS is 20 correct? (I don't actually play it)

14 5
16 10
13 3
12 2
13 3
9 -1
--------
22

A more comfortable array might be

14 5
16 10
14 5
10 0
12 2
8 -2
-------
20

then add racial adjustments. You'll note going from 13 wis to 12 doesn't lower you modifier, but 12 con instead of 11 will help you out as a first timer. 14 int is a lil much for a ranger you'll be fine with 12, and don't neglect knowledge: nature, people will count on you to have it :0

Silver Crusade

You're right. Rich Parents is banned from PFS. Do you have any recommendations for traits?

Reactionary and indomitable faith are good ones, here is a guide if you wish. Just click, unsure if it list PFS legality or not.

i like the one that gives +1 to saves vrs devine magic, and either reactonary for +2 inititive or +2 caster level, magical lienage i think.

if you want medium armor, grab some kikko armor... (+5 AC, max DEX +4, armor check -3, 20% ASF, 25 lbs.)costs 30 gp, unlike a chainshirt (100gp) or chainmail (150gp)... which no 1st level PFS player would be able to afford.

Warrior of Old is an elf trait, and replicates the reactionary trait.
Armor Expert is another good one for a ranger.

Silver Crusade

Here is the revised Aldarion.

Elf Ranger
Aldarion
HP 10
Speed 30 ft. w armor
Initiative 4
Base Att Bonus 1
Common, Elven
47 gp

STR 14 +2
DEX 18 +4
CON 12 +1
INT 12 +1
WIS 12 +1
CHA 8 -1

AC 17 [10+3(studded leather)+4(dex mod)]

FORT 3 [2(base)+1(ability)]
REF 6 [2(base)+4(ability)]
WILL 2 [1(ability)+1(trait)]

Longbow
Dagger
Studded Leather
20 Arrows
(I haven't bought all of my equipment yet.)

Feats
Point Blank Shot

Traits
Indomitable Faith

Alignment
LG

Faction
The Silver Crusade

Ranks
Climb 6
Heal 5
Knowledge - Dungeoneering 5
Knowledge - Nature 5
Perception 7
Profession - Architect 5
Spellcraft 5
Stealth 8

I have a question on a few of the areas that are blank for my character.

What is TOUCH Armor Class?
FLAT-FOOTED Armor Class?

CMB
CMD

And do I have any Spell Resistance?

touch ac is non physical armor bonuses, dex deflection luck ect..

flat footed is all physical armor bonuses, armor, shields, natural armor ect..

cmd is for non damaging attacks like trip, overrun, grapple, bull rush ect...

cmd is your defense against them.

and no you do not have SR (spell resistance)

you should have 11 hp + favored bonus, if you chose the hit point.

you get one more trait
and dont get a composite bow at level 1, its not worth the extra cash. when you have the money for a master work MCLB (mighty composite long bow) +2 strength (600g).

Silver Crusade

So I'll assume that I shouldn't need anything in those areas?

again, I would look at Kikko armor from Ultimate Combat, as well as the armor expert, and Warrior of Old traits.

it would boost your AC by 2, your armor check would increase by 1, and your initiative would be 2 higher.

I am looking at it now. I will probably change it.

Touch armor class is your AC minus any shield and armor bonuses. In your case... Touch AC 14.

Flat-Footed is your AC without your dex or dodge modifiers. Yours would be.. Flat-Footed AC 13.

CMB-> your bab + str.. for you it's: BAB 1 + +2Str= CMB: +3

CMD: 10 + your dex and str modifiers + size and other bonuses (same thing for cmb).... yours is--> 10+ 4+2= +16

To my recollection, rangers receive no Spell Resistance.

Silver Crusade

Thank you Grizzly.

Kat, how can Kikko armor affect my initiative?

kikko armor increases your AC by 2, and your armor check penalty by 2.

Warrior of Old increases your initiative by 2.

Armor Expert decreases your armor check penalty by 1.

I was just adding up the total effects of the armor and traits i suggested. sorry for my lack of clarity.
