A Brigand! |
So i have been playing around with the idea of a Lore Warden with a glaive guisarme, armor spikes and a spiked gauntlet. Pretty standard.
I love the tactical play such a character provides. You need to think a lot about movement, tactical positioning, and AoO's.
However... I feel like i need more tools in my proverbial utility belt. Tripping doesn't work on everything, so I have looked into spending resources on damage output. That only goes so far, and I keep feeling like I need spells of some kind to even the odds, at the very minimum using UMD.
so how do I do that while maintaining my high CMB numbers that Lore Warden gives me?
I wwas looking at something like this:
20 point buy, human
STR 14 (16)
DEX 14
CON 14
INT 14
WIS 12
CHA 8
traits
Bred For War (Shoanti)
???
1 Power Attack
1 Combat Reflexes
3 Weapon Focus: Glaive Guisarme
5 Fury's Fall
7 Cleave
9 Cleaving Finish
11 ???
Fighter Feats
2 Improved Trip
(2)Combat Expertise
4 Weapon Specialization: Glaive Guisarme
6 Greater Trip
8 Greater Weapon Focus: Glaive Guisarme
10 ???
12 Greater Specialization: Glaive Guisarme
Any help on giving this guy some more tricks up his sleeve would awesome!
Thanks everyone!

Weird idea:
Human, with the Racial Heritage(Kobold) feat and the Tail Terror feat.
Use a Long Lash Kobold Tail Attachment and a Scimitar with the Dervish Dance feat. Later, get the Agile enchantment on the tail attachment.
Threaten 5 and 10 feat away, be completely dex focused, and trip as you wish.

you should dip one level of cleric. it would oprn up the list of spells for you to carry when you are unable to control the ground.
i would choose growth and travel domains, then use utility spells like summon monster I-IX for when you need to have air support ect.. not to mention you would gain medium armor profeciency, swift action enlarge person, +10 feet to move speed and +2 will. just for dipping into it.
then i would ditch UMD and pick up spell craft, with the trait magical lienage, i think +2 caster levels, you would qualify for craft wonderous for making and enchanting your weapons for cheap.

My idea also decreases MAD. With a free hand, you are also open to Crane Style and Crane Wing.
The high dex will increase AC, and pull more out of Combat Reflexes.
You will still be able to do ranged effectively.
The Dex to damage will mean you will hit harder than other high dex builds.
If you choose, the two weapon fighting feats will be easy for you to acquire.

also this doesnt work...
1 Power Attack
1 Combat Reflexes
3 Weapon Focus: Glaive Guisarme
5 Fury's Fall
7 Cleave
9 Cleaving Finish
11 ???
Fighter Feats
2 Improved Trip
(2)Combat Expertise
4 Weapon Specialization: Glaive Guisarme
6 Greater Trip
8 Greater Weapon Focus: Glaive Guisarme
10 ???
12 Greater Specialization: Glaive Guisarme
i dont like the weapon focus chain for a trip fighter. stand still would be more useful to your build. archery feats are a good choice past level 6 for flying targets.
and even whirlwind could be a better choice then the weapon focus chain.
*edit* oh now i see why it didnt add up. you're missing a first level feat. you have h, 1, and you're missing level 1 fighter.

Half-Orc Bard.
Exotic Weapon Proficiency (net)
-Keep a handful of folded masterwork nets, no higher in quality.
Use a Large Scorpion Whip two-handed (medium if your GM won't allow the extra 5ft. of reach due to size increase)
Use performances for buffs, spells for debuffs.
Throw in Dazzling Display (whip) with Intimidating Prowess, and I'm sure you'll get the idea.

Honestly, you don't need a lot beyond Power Attack and maybe Weapon Specializatiom to do really decent damage. You can be a very effective fighter just lashing out with full attacks, especially if you trip someone with your first attack, take an AOO if he goes down, and then strike him while he's prone at -4 to his AC. Get your friendly spellcaster to cast heroism on you, or use the occasional potion of it, or other buffs to taste.
Put Cleave as your level 2 fighter feat and trade it out for something more useful when you stop using it. Ignore Cleaving Finsh -- it's way too situational, you need to have another foe in reach when you drop someone. You get your extra attacks from Combat Reflexes and Greater Trip. Lunge is usually better at 7th level anyway.
Your ??? feats should be devoted to either keeping yourself alive, or adding extra capability. Iron Will is highly recommended, or you could add a decent archery capability withPBShot, Rapid Shot, Manyshot, and DeadlyAim. That lets you deal with fliers or archers yourself.
Also, much depends on your campaign. Who are you fighting a lot of the time? What are their tactics? What do you need to counter them?
Fighters can do a primary tpath, and a secondary path, and still have a few feats left over for survival. You secondary trick could be archery, or it could be heavy protevtive stuff, or it could be some kind of skill-related path (high acrobatics? Mobility? Perception?) or it could be something else. With a Lore Warden, it could very well be a second combat maneuver that you're good at -- drag, bull rush, reposition, disarm? Again, who are you fighting?
