Aid another

Rules Questions

Just making sure there is not an errata somewhere. As long as I can strike a baddie in melee I can aid another. So I can use a whip and aid another from relive safety of 15 feet?

Sure looks that way to me. Whips don't normally threaten but the aid another action doesn't specify threatening as necessary.

You can. For added benefit, be a halfling with the Helpful trait (Halflings of Golarion). A halfling bard with a whip can provide +5 to an ally's attack from first level.

There's also the Shadow Lodge trait for PFS purposes, but that only increases the bonus to +3.

Don't forget Aid Another stacks, which is fun with summon monster spells.

you can aid someones attack without being able to strike them so long as you can do something that would hamper them like a distraction

more fun with using the 1d4+1 version of higher summon monster spell plus other metamagic and feats to bump that further ;)

According to the rules, you have to be able to attack yourself:

Aid Another

In melee combat, you can help a friend attack or defend by distracting or interfering with an opponent. If you're in position to make a melee attack on an opponent that is engaging a friend in melee combat, you can attempt to aid your friend as a standard action. You make an attack roll against AC 10. If you succeed, your friend gains either a +2 bonus on his next attack roll against that opponent or a +2 bonus to AC against that opponent's next attack (your choice), as long as that attack comes before the beginning of your next turn. Multiple characters can aid the same friend, and similar bonuses stack.

You can also use this standard action to help a friend in other ways, such as when he is affected by a spell, or to assist another character's skill check.
