Hey guys I've been kicking around playing a wizard here soon and had a question. How exactly does fast study Arcane discovery work?

Fast Study

Prerequisite: You must be at least a 5th-level Wizard to select this discovery.

Benefit: Normally, a Wizard spends 1 hour preparing all of his spells for the day, or proportionately less if he only prepares some spells, with a minimum of 15 minutes of preparation. Thanks to mental discipline and clever mnemonics, you can prepare all of your spells in only 15 minutes, and your minimum preparation time is only 1 minute.

I understand the quicker prep'ing of spells at the beginning of the day but where it says you can prepare you spells with a minimum of 1 minute what does that mean? Does this function kind of like an alchemist where if they don't prep all of their extracts(rather spells in the case of the wizard) at the start of the day you can prep some on the fly at a later point?

I did not know that there was a function of a wizard that allowed him to save spell slots for this. Can some wizard experts(or anyone who knows more about wizards than I do) shed some light on the subject?

Exactly right.

Magic - Preparing Wizard Spells

Spell Preparation Time: "After resting, a wizard must study his spellbook to prepare any spells that day. If he wants to prepare all his spells, the process takes 1 hour. Preparing some smaller portion of his daily capacity takes a proportionally smaller amount of time, but always at least 15 minutes, the minimum time required to achieve the proper mental state."

Spell Selection and Preparation: "When preparing spells for the day, a wizard can leave some of these spell slots open. Later during that day, he can repeat the preparation process as often as he likes, time and circumstances permitting. During these extra sessions of preparation, the wizard can fill these unused spell slots. He cannot, however, abandon a previously prepared spell to replace it with another one or fill a slot that is empty because he has cast a spell in the meantime. That sort of preparation requires a mind fresh from rest. Like the first session of the day, this preparation takes at least 15 minutes, and it takes longer if the wizard prepares more than one-quarter of his spells."

thank you very much grick. This seems like an awesome option for wizards that don't frequent the 15 minute adventuring day.

This option is actually amazing. I try to leave one spell slot a level open at the start of the day. Also, memorizing a Mnemonic enhancer and casting part way though the day is also very handy.

Seconded. You will discover a ... want for flexibility and adaptability as a wizard.

Wizard are magical Swiss army knives. Something like a sorcerer is more of a magical cannon. Wizards win by having the right tool.
