Favored Class Questions

Rules Questions

PRD: Each character begins play with a single favored class of his choosing—typically, this is the same class as the one he chooses at 1st level. Whenever a character gains a level in his favored class, he receives either + 1 hit point or + 1 skill rank. The choice of favored class cannot be changed once the character is created, and the choice of gaining a hit point or a skill rank each time a character gains a level (including his first level) cannot be changed once made for a particular level.

Question 1: Including his first level means that I can get +1HP at first level?

Question 2: cannot be changed once made for a particular level means that if choose the +1HP I have to make the same selection every level? Or it means that at every level I make the selection but that it can not be switch once made?

Question 3: If I choose to take +1 skill rank this is addition to the skills that I get every level as a class benefit and the ones I get if choose to be human right?

Yes, no and yes.

  1. you get whichever boon you picked right away - provided you picked your starting class as favored class of course.
  2. You can chose whether to take the skillpoint or the hitpoint every time to take another level of your favored class, but you can't pick a new favored class.
  3. Yes, it's on top of whatever else you get, from whichever source.

Yes, You can +1 Hp at first level.
Cannot be changed per level, You can have +1 hp first level, +1 skill point 2nd level, +1 hp 3rd level.
Yes +1 skill is in addition to any other bonus to skills you would get, like being a human.

Of course, you could also take the alternate racial favored class bonus instead of +1hp or +1skill point. :)

I am reading about it on the Advanced Player's Guide! Thanks!

Artificer: if you go to the Advanced Race Guide it expands on the alternate favored class bonuses (adds more of them to the various races).
