Buying a +1 weapon outright?

Rules Questions

When buying a +1 Weapon or Armour outright, do you need to pay for the weapon/armour, the +1 quality and the masterwork quality, or do you just pay for the base armour/weapon and +1 quality?

Thanks a lot! :)

You also need to pay for masterwork.

Base weapon, Masterwork, and enchantment. For example a +1 longsword would cost 2,315 gp.

You have to pay the cost of the item, so Weapon/Armor cost + masterwork Cost + Enchantment Cost

You also have to pay for special materials if you try to make it silvered or adamantine.

It does suck that the +1 from MWK gets "eaten" by the enchant, but that's unfortunately the way of it.

Unless otherwise stated you pay for the weapon + the cost for masterwork + the cost for the weapon or armor enhancement.

Exceptions will be specifically noted in the text.

Dragonhide for example.

Ah, as I figured. :(

Thanks very much for the help though everyone. I was unsure myself, but just wanted to make sure, just in case luck was on my side.

My favourite character died last night (very nearly lived against 12 magical wolves with AC17 in a GM created side quest for Kingmaker), but ran out of Enchantments, Channels and Healing Spells, so I'm just finishing up on his best friend's Stats.

The idea is his best friend will come in to avenge his death, whilst working his way into the Kingdom's Council to become an Honorary citizen and member of the Kingdom, in hope to bring his best friend back to life and simultaneously fight for a world without war.

He'll be coming in at level 4 with 6000gp, so I was hoping I could afford a +1 Breastplate and two +1 Wakizashi's, but it's 20gp over. :(

Sucks.

Thanks once again everyone!

Some special materials (mithral and adamantine come to mind) subsume the masterwork cost (you don't have to pay for both masterwork and adamantine; it is masterwork automatically).

I don't think it's too wise to spend all your money on armor and weapons anyway.
Also a +1 weapon is just marginally better than a masterwork one. Both give you the +1 attack. The +1 damage is a nice bonus, but the atk usually increases your damage by a lot more. (especially if you have sneak attack or something)

Sure it counts as magic for DR too, but thats not too important at low levels yet.

Get two MW weapons, the +1 armor and then spend the remaining 4000 gp on stuff that actually helps you. If nothing else, a Belt of Giant strenth gives you a +1 damage too :) And +1 attack if you're strength fighter.
(but that's probably not the best way to spend your cash either)

Grand Lodge

Unless you already have the masterwork weapon or armor and simply want to pay for the enchantment, though that entails waiting for it to be finished.

Gracias, this is something I honestly did not know.

I was going to go with the normal Vanilla Fighter, but realised for Dual-Wielding the Two-Weapon Warrior comes out on top, sheerly for the "Balance" abilities that negate that final -2 from attack rolls when dual wielding. :)

Instead, I went with +1 Mithral Breastplate (Two-Weapon Warrior gets rid of Weapon and Armour Training) and two Masterwork Wakizashi's, leaving me 130gp spare. :)

Suzaku Back story:

Suzaku is the son of House Rogarvia's last prime minister, Genbu Kururugi. His existence was kept a secret from the public until recently. Suzaku met Lelouch and his sister Nunnally when they moved to the Kururugi residence as a diplomatic peace trade. At first, Suzaku despised Lelouch because he thought that he was a prince who didn't care about anyone. As time passed by, however, he came to know Lelouch better, and they soon became best friends.

Suzaku and his father didn't really get along.

Mortified by the surrounding violence and his father's belief that resisting to the bitter end was preferable to surrender, unable to change his father's mind, Suzaku murdered him during a heated exchange. The incident was covered up and Suzaku's life was spared, while the government was thrown into disarray and surrendered to the opposing forces. Lelouch believes that, had Genbu lived, House Rogarvia would have likely been torn apart by war once the other major powers decided to intervene. Suzaku's guilt over the incident causes him to constantly place himself on the frontlines in the hope of atoning for his actions with his own death. It also inspires his belief that the ends achieved by using the wrong means are meaningless, since he created peace through murder.

Despite this fact, Suzaku still shows interest in achieving a world where everyone can live happily and have a greater tomorrow. Lelouch set out to achieve this and now Suzaku must continue his mission.

C.C. (Lelouch's lover) caught wind of Lelouch's death before most. Shocked by the news, she turned to Suzaku for aid. She tells him that there may be a way to revive her lover and Suzaku's best friend, but in order to accomplish this, Suzaku must become an honorary member of the United Federation of Nations, joining the Council and living on long enough to make reviving Lelouch possible.

As such, Suzaku's mission is to now enter the Kingdom of the United Federation of Nations to avenge his best friend's death and hopefully find a way to bring Lelouch back to life, under C.C.'s order, whilst simultaneously trying to bring about world peace.

@FleshGrinder - Does that mean I don't have to pay for the Masterwork quality on a Mithral armour or only Adamantine?

Again, I'd not get Mithral yet. Thats 80% of your money in a single piece.
Unless you need the extra +2 Dex to AC or really really really are annoyed by the extra +2 ACP (+3, but MW gets +1 too, so just +2 difference), its really not that awesome. Just saying.

For Mithral:
Cost Weapons or armors fashioned from mithral are always masterwork items as well; the masterwork cost is included in the prices given below.

Mithral Breastplate is 4200 gp.

Yea, so +1 is 5200gp then?

I recommend Mithral Do-Maru armor instead. <g> Same price, same general category of armor, 1 less point of base AC, 1 more point of Dex allowed . . ..

It also matches the inherent flavor of dual-wielding wakizashi better, or at least fits the image better.

I also recommend adding +1, then Agile, then Keen to the wakizashi.

I'm playing this base character (mechanically) in a Jade Regeant game right now, actually . . ..
