Scattering firearms

Advice

I rather like the scatter weapon quality, although it seems to suffer some of the same problems as feats like cleave; particularly good against multiple baddies, but less good against large single enemies.

That said, how can I get some good damage out of a blunderbuss or similar weapon with a Gunslinger (or anything for that matter)? The scatter weapon quality itself prohibits the use of feats to increase damage. It doesn't seem to prohibit class features, though. The Musket Master's gun training dexterity damage should apply to the attack rolls.
I also like the Snap Shot line (although the capstone won't do anything.) Getting as many attacks as possible looks like the best way to do it, but I'm sure you creative folk could come up with something neat.

No advanced firearms please as my DM won't allow it.

Thanks for your help/discussion!

I was a fan of using the Pistolero archtype and using a Dragon Pistol in one hand and a regular pistol in the other.

Yeah, that Dragon pistol has me confused. I assume the text is correct (15 foot cone, 10 foot range) and not the chart. I think the critical modifier is wrong too, but have no way of knowing one way or the other.

I'll have to talk to my DM about what he thinks. When Ult Equip comes out I hope we have the answer.

That said, the Pistolero uses precision damage, so its extra damage ability doesn't work on scatter, not that that's exactly a bad thing. I also don't think you can reload while holding two weapons, right?

Do grit abilities that increase the range increase the cone range?

Not sure on the range question.

Reloading 2 pistols gets into a grey area with weapon cords, or you'd have to take 2 levels alchemist for the extra arm/tentacle.

Or you could play a Vanaras or Tiefling with the prehensile tail.

The way I'm reading it is that a scatter firearm gives you the choice to load it with scattershot or with an ordinary bullet.

In this way, it's sort of like the dilemma prepared spellcasters face. You have to decide how many bullets you want to carry vs. how many shots worth of scatter pellets. If you've got Rapid Reload and/or cartridges, then you should be able to react to the situation fast enough that you can load up a scattershot when the circumstances align and use regular shots the rest of the time.

I concur Silent Saturn.

Sweet jeepers I don't want extra limbs, that's so... so... cheesy! I was thinking more along the lines of alchemical pellets/dragons breath as necessary.

I was plotting Musket Master, Svirfneblin (talking a level penalty) with a Musket and a Blunderbuss

Lv0: Svirfneblin
Lv1: Musket Master Bonus: Rapid Reload, Musket. Rapid Reload, Blunderbuss.
Lv2: No feat
Lv3: Point Blank Shot
Lv4: Rapid Shot
Lv5: Weapon Focus (Blunderbuss?)
Lv6: No feat
Lv7: Snap Shot

We'd be at level 8 or 9 by this time, so I could be as high as 8th level as a Svirfneblin. Otherwise, I'll probably be a Dwarf with the spell resistance racial trait.

If it's overall not worthwhile, I may just skip it and focus on the Musket. I really do hope things get clarified on the scatter quality when Ult Equip is released.
