CL with Su and Sp count as....

Rules Questions

Sczarni

So I am looking through the core rulebook and seeing that a Rogue (and other classes) sometimes can get Sp (or Su) abilities. My question is this: They say they are a Caster Level = Rogue Level for that ability. Does this Caster Level qualify them for Craft Wondrous Item feats?

Nowhere does it say "you must have Caster Levels in a Spellcasting Class" that I can find. And after looking up the definition of Caster Level in the book it seems that ANY Caster Level meets the qualifications of these feats. SPELLS is a Class feature of spellcasting classes. Not Caster Level.

Anyone know if the powers that be ruled on this (besides PFS just plain saying "NO" to Item Creation Feats)?

Yes I do know Master Craftsman does say that "Normal: Only spellcasters can qualify for the Craft Magic Arms and Armor and Craft Wondrous Item feats." - But it doesn't say "Spellcasting Classes" - it says "spellcasters" - ie. anyone with a Caster Level, which seems to indicate to me that Su and Sp abilities with CL would qualify?

(ps. I appologize in advance if this has been answered 10000x already)

Supernatural abilities are not spells or spell-like. They do not have a caster level.

I believe that spell-like abilities (with corresponding caster levels) do not count as prerequisites for item creation feats. I expect someone will be around with a link soon.

To be a spellcaster you have to cast spells. The Rogue class doesn't have access to spells, only spell-likes and supernaturals. When it says at a caster level = rogue level it means for effects that are dependent on caster level. Not that the rogue gets a caster level.

Caster Level

A spell's power often depends on its caster level, which for most spellcasting characters is equal to her class level in the class she's using to cast the spell.

No spells, no caster level.

EDIT: Therefore, they don't qualify for magic item creation feats.

No it does not because you are not a caster. It is just counting your class level as caster level for the purpose of those SLA's. By caster levels they do mean class caster level. I have answered this before. I will post a link as soon as I locate my other response. I do remember it being a long debate before it was nailed down.

Well, that settles that. :)

I did not even have to do any searching. :)

Spell-Like Abilities as Spells: Does a creature with a spell-like ability count as having that spell on its spell list for the purpose of activating spell completion or spell trigger items?

No. A spell-like ability is not a spell, having a spell-like ability is not part of a class's spell list, and therefore doesn't give the creature the ability to activate spell completion or spell trigger items.

If they don't count enough to use a wand of it, then I'm pretty certain it doesn't count enough to qualify as being a spell caster.

I'm sure I saw a more definitive Dev post on this (I think in relation to qualifying for Prestige classes) but I'm too sleepy to find it just now.

EDIT: Ninja'd by someone who covered it just as well, possibly better.
