I was just curious: what would the armour check penalty of Mithril Hellknight Plate be? -2 or -3?
These distinctive suits of armor are a special type of masterwork full plate that, when worn by a character with levels in the Hellknight prestige class, grants additional effects.
2,000 gp +9 +1 -5 35% 20 ft. 30 ft. 50 lbs.
The flavour text indicates it's special masterwork full plate, and -1 reduction of armour check penalty of masterwork armour doesn't stack with the reduction of armour check penalty of mithril, and thus should it have an armour check penalty of -3?
Or should the flavour text just be flavour text and mithril would reduce the armour check penalty to -2?
At 2nd level, a Hellknight earns the right to wear Hellknight armor (below). While wearing this armor, the Hellknight reduces the armor check penalty by 1, increases the maximum Dexterity bonus allowed by 1, and moves at full speed.
At 5th level, these adjustments increase to 2.
At 8th level, these adjustments increase to 3.

The description Hakken quoted would reduce the ACP even further - due to the different sources, the reduction stacks.
At 5 levels of the Hellknight PrC the character would have 0 ACP.

Nope, the bonus from mastercrafted and mithril don't stack. The ACP would be -3 since it starts at -6 with the bonus from mastercrafted removed. Hellknight plate is the same as full plate statistically before you add the fancy hellknight class abilities.
Edit to add: Otherwise you could get double mastercrafted Hellknight plate in regular materials for -4 ACP which seems silly to me.
Ah, true. Fullplate starts at -6. My mistake, than you need 8 levels of the Hellknight PrC to reduce your ACP to 0.

but it already has teh MASTERWORK built in. what happens when you slap masterwork on fullplate??
