Skills (Craft & Profession)

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Ok i am producing an Microsoft Excel Document that is Pathfinder Char sheet with all the formulas, Races, and Classes i am having a problem with Skills (Craft & Profession) i was wondering if there is a full list of what is considered a Craft and what is considered Profession. Also i need to know what is Craft skill for Gun-smithing if you don't take the feat.

Shadow Lodge

There isn't a craft skill for gunsmithing, only those with the gunsmithing feat can actually craft guns, ammo, etc due to the advanced techniques and complex training one needs to create these high tech killing machines. Think of it like a technological version of craft wondrous item. As for actual craft & profession skills that's a bit more tricky. The PFC gives a sample list of crafts & professions under both of the skill's descriptions but those are by no means the only ones and are meant to be some easy pg-13 examples meant to give readers a quick idea of what kinds of jobs fall under those skills and are appropriate for everyone. If you really want to you can pull thousands more out that aren't listed with everything from craft (basket weaving) to profession (torturer). Suggestion would be to leave a blank space after Craft & Profession so your players can fill it in as needed.

Rule-of-thumb: make something? Craft. Do something? Profession.

Within that loose pair of definitions, there is almost a limitless scope for individual skills... I'd go with Doc about just leaving blank(s).

Oh yes, Craft and Profession have quite limitless possibilties. I currently am playing a Witch with Craft: Poison and Profession: Undertaker.

If you are creating a program to cover this I would limit the choices. I'm sure that ten of each is plenty for normal people. But... most gamers aren't normal.

Or simply have multiple craft skills all titled "Craft ______________" and player fills in the blank.

honestly, I've never found either of those skills particularily useful. The minor exception to this is Craft Alchemy and Craft Bower/Fletcher. The first for making alchemical stuff, if you're into that sort of thing, and the second for making arrows. I never put many points into either. I'd just take 10 or 20 during downtime. The ranks were mostly for fluff/flavor because one can generally just buy such things easier than making.

OK guys thanks for all the help. I will have to keep all that in mind.
