Shoes of Lightning Leaping Saving throw

Rules Questions

I wanted to check on something.

The boots say you move 50ft and deal 6d6 damage as per the lightning bolt spell. It mentions no saving throw but references "as per the lightning bolt spell" which has one. Saving throws are generally not calculated on caster level so I was curious if this was a "no save" situation or if it had a default save of 13 (because saves are generally 10 + spell level + casting stat modifier(which for an item would be 0))

I was curious as most items call out saves.

The saving throw would actually be DC 14, because the magic item is assumed to have the minimum mental attribute required to cast the spell (in this case, Int or Cha 13).

Magic items produce spells or spell-like effects. For a saving throw against a spell or spell-like effect from a magic item, the DC is 10 + the level of the spell or effect + the ability modifier of the minimum ability score needed to cast that level of spell.

I hope this answers your question.

Step 1 in the rules forum. Post the rules. Please.

These short black shoes fit tightly around the wearer’s feet and bear designs of leaping arcs of lightning and wild winds.

Once per day on command, a creature wearing these boots can transform into lightning and move up to 50 feet in a straight line, re-materializing at the far end of the lightning bolt. Creatures in the path of the lightning take 6d6 points of electricity damage and objects take damage as per the lightning bolt spell. If the lightning strikes an object or barrier and fails to burst through it, the creature wearing the boots appears next to the impacted object and is staggered for 1 round. Movement while in lightning form does not provoke attacks of opportunity.

Bolding mine. There are two possible meanings, either "creatures...and objects...as per lightning bolt" is one clause or "creatures...." is one clause conjunctioned with "objects....as per lightning bolt" which is a separate clause with no relation to the first.

I couldn't tell you which is definitively correct. I lean towards the second one simply because it would have been shorter (and simpler) to say that "this functions like Lightning Bolt except...". Instead they duplicate much of the spell text in explaining exactly what happens. Again though, no clear answer.

As the other person posted, the DC would be 14 if one was required. 10+3 (spell level) + 1 (13 Int minimum needed to cast the spell).
