Hey, i was planning on getting this box and playing over the summer with my friend and my brother. I am going to DM/GM and was wondering if it would be appropriate to play as the pre-included cleric to assist my players for the first few quests, just so they don't die. Also if there are any tips you could give me, I would appreciate that.

Being a GM and playing an NPC helping out the party is done all the time. Just make sure that the players are the focus of the game and your NPC stays more in the background.
The most important thing, more than following the rules words for word, or using figures/tokens/gamemaps or whatever, is that your players are having fun. Enough challenge to make them worried about surviving, and enough loot to get them excited about what they might find after a battle is done.
As a GM, make sure you're prepared, go over the module and make sure you know it. If you're using game maps/figures, make sure that they are ready for use.
