On halfling slingers, druids, kangaroos, and tower shields

Rules Questions

so I came up with a very fun idea. A halfling druid, who specializes in riding around in a kangaroo pouch and using a sling to attack (awesome I know right?)

Well I thought to myself, how can I help this guys really get the hurt on and still be marginally safe?

Then I came to the conclusion! TOWER SHIELD FOR THE KANGAROO! Yeah it would receive major negatives to attacks but the bonuses to defense would be huge.

Now I'm stuck with a conundrum. I'm in its pouch. I'm small size and I have a medium tower shield in front of me. Can I still attack?

Seriously does no one know what happens when a kangaroo wields a tower shield and a halfling tries to sling rocks at people from its pouch?

Liberty's Edge

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I imagine that a kangaroo animal companion would allow the halfling druid in the pouch, assuming the dimensions were right. However, I am not sure that the kangaroo would understand to use the tower shield.

If it had 3 Int and you blew 2 feats on it, it would. Given that it's bipedal, you could even reasonably have it wear the thing.

It's an animal companion for a druid :)

The only real issue I could see a DM giving, (aside from the physicality of whether or not a kangy can hold one at all- which i have no clue on) is whether or not YOU could shoot out from behind IT while both getting its benefit, and not taking a substantial penalty to your attack.

I think a halfling is too big to fit in a kangaroo's pouch. A young kangaroo that gets that big will be out of the pouch by then. It might stick its head in to suckle (that's where the nipple is), but it won't actually be getting in there.

Also, the kangaroo wouldn't like the tower shield. Among other things, that would interfere with its vision, and probably its jumping.

aww that makes me sad. I wanted to have a picture of a kangaroo charging into battle with an enraged halflings throwing rocks from its stomach.

Also, it's medium vs. small. At that point riding in its pouch or riding on its back is mostly flavor I think since facing doesn't exist I'll never get cover for it

or make a harness that it wears on the front as a saddle

How would the Halfling swing his sling, without hitting Skippy?

that was my only issue with the idea. On a facts note, the red kangaroo joey only weighs about 2 pounds when they leave the pouch, so technically a halfling would be too big, but I say who gives a rats ass, make the character anyway.

Dire kangaroo ftw!
