Rules Questions

This class ability comes from the Prestige Class Pathfinder Savant from the Pathfinder Chronicles: Seekers of Secrets book. I was wondering how it works exactly.

This makes the chosen spell considered a class spell for you for all intensive purposes? Or is there something it doesn't do for you?

Mainly, will this work with Share Spell?

No input on this?

Esoteric Magic allows you to take spell from another classes spell list and add it to yours, essentially. As an example, a wizard that went into Pathfinder Savant could take Cure <X> Wounds and make it a part of their spell list. They could then prepare those spells every day. They could also use items like wands without the UMD since it's now in their spell list.

If you're talking about the Share Spells power for familiars/animal comapnions, if it's a spell with the range "you", it should work.

Thanks Harley. That was my logic behind it as well, but I was wanting to make sure I was not missing anything or misinterpreting anything.

The Exchange

One important point about the selected spell: it is added to your class spell list, not directly added to your spells. That means:

1) A spontaneous caster like sorcerer, summoner, oracle, etc. must still select the spell as a known spell when they would normally be able to select a new spell of the appropriate level.

2) A book-based class (wizard, magus, or alchemist) must still find a copy of the spell and scribe it into her spell book before she can prepare the spell.

3) A divine preparation caster (Druid, Cleric, Paladin) may prepare the spell at his next normal opportunity. Note that this spell is still subject to alignment restrictions as normal.

Some mighty fine points. While I would likely try and aim to take said spells as one of my new spells as I level, I suppose one might find good reason to add a spell they are not currently capable of casting to their spell list.

I wonder if you can use this to poach spells off the Summoner and Bard lists at lower than normal level.

Yes. It's pretty commonly done to get Haste as a 2nd level spell (From the Summoner).
